Hi Linda,
I'll try to answer your question. The loin cloth is comprised of two square pieces of material, one worn at front and one at back and attached at the waist. Underneath is worn the breechclout (breechcloth...help guys I've seen it written both ways), which seems to vary in width. I'm not sure of the exact way both articles were done up at the waist....I'll defer to the experts on frontier clothing to answer the technical stuff.
I guess the joke about loin cloths is that so many of us females go a little dippy thinking about all those studly guys running around in the film wearing little else than the loin cloths.
Now if the men in our lives really wanted to get our attention.....
