NightSky,
I realize you posed the question to Clabert, but I will answer for my part. I wear my plain old dark gray wool clout year round. Cotton would not be correct, at least I don't think so, cause cotton was so difficult to get in 18th century. Wool and linen were the easy materials to get hold of. I just never tried linen, maybe it's too thin, would bunch up, not sure. I had a piece of gray wool laying around and it just became THE clout about 12 years ago. It is not uncomfortable, maybe I'm just used to it. I also have a red wool clout with some decoration which I wear once in a while. With a long shirt and a long waistcoat, my braintanned elk leggins and moccassins, I just feel like the cat's meow!!
Pax Aye!
