Let me make a few comments. I have worn a breech clout for more than ten years as a longhunter. I trek, hunt (in all seasons), camp, etc. in this article of clothing. A breech clout is the same as a loincloth and it is one piece of material, 4 feet or so in length and a foot wide or less, depends on your personal taste if you want it longer or not as wide or whatever. It is placed between the legs, tied at the waist, with a part of it hanging in front and back. So, all one piece of material, call it a breech clout or loincloth, and unlike the kilt, if the front or back is lifted, nothing can be seen cause the remainder of the material is covering.....well, you know!!

My clout is a piece of gray wool which I tie with a leather thong. I then wear leggins which are tied to a different thong, overtop is a long shirt, so only the back flap of the clout is a bit visible below the shirt...I wear my clout longer in the back than the front, personal preference. Different Native tribes wore different sizes, styles of clouts. Had a friend who did Mohawk and he wore a very small clout and many times no shirt....he was a strapping big man, also.!!..

Pax Aye!!
