Marc, Cherie, Lady Ann, The MacLeod, Vincent, Debby, Bryan, Dianne, Etc. etc. Glad to hear everyone is making it home safely. It was great to see everyone! And Dianne, don't be so hard on yourself, I also chose to forego Table Rock. I had reached my limit, too, I think. Oh well, there's always next year, when I won't be so tired because there's no way I'm going down that river again!!!!!!!!!!! Hahahaha
And for those of us who returned to work or had to get up early to travel today, I ran into Mac Schaeffer in Waynesville this evening and he made sure to point out how great it was to sleep in this morning! Grrrrrrrrrrrr!
Bye for now,

Wow! What a Gathering! I can hardly get my thoughts organized
right now, and my silly husband wants to talk about the fact that
we're moving tomorrow! Much to my surprise, he left the computer
hooked up for me so I could tell everyone hello, how much I missed
old friends and how much I enjoyed making new ones. I listened to
my Bill Miller and LOTM cds on the way home from Jayne's to make the
experience last just a little bit longer. Not sure when I'll be able
to check things out here again, so want to say thanks to everyone
involved for such a wonderful experience. Can't wait to see you all
again!

Regarding "Name That Cheek: The New Frontier Game" - Regis, I would like to change my answer! I'm still not sure about the second one from the left, so I'll forego that one at the moment. Now, with apologies to Claude Williams, the gentleman third from the left is actually Ann Colby's husband, Bill (I think!). See what sleep deprivation can do to your brain?!

As much as I hate the thought, I'm back in the "real" world now & it's time for me to get ready to go back to work (YUCK!). Keep posting, everybody - the fun's not over yet!

Name that cheek ... the new frontier game!

Welcome To Table Rock Mountain....As you all know, the many wonderful experiences to be had here are "endless". A new activity has been added to our line-up...we call this one Latest Outdoor Tanning Method. Be careful with this, though. If you Lean Over Too Much you tend to expose Loads Of Tender Meat. Not to worry. Simply apply Liniment On That Mound and everything will be just cheeky. For those who are game plan to stick around after dark where you can experience the Light Of The Moons!!!

Had a great time!! Too many experiences and thoughts going through my head at the moment. I need a little time to digest it all. It was wonderful to see familiar (is that better, Stephanie?) faces and meeting new ones. Looking forward to everyones' stories to share and pictures as well. Thank you, Rich, for once again giving of yourself so that all of us could have the great "adventcha".

Hi, All!
Theresa, how about Loss Of Their Modesty? Hmmm - they probably weren't modest to begin with, knowing those four! How about Lifting Over the Mountain? Anyway, each and every day of the Gathering was spectacular. Not a muscle left unworked, not an extremity unbruised! But I'd do it all over again - well...maybe a raft instead of a funyak. All you gatherers were so wonderful - I really enjoyed getting to know all you new folks and getting better acquainted with the "oldies"!

Many huge thanks to all who donated items, bought the "Three Wisemen" raffle tickets, participated in the silent auction, and/or bought Ariel's Cabin merchandise. The fundraising was a terrific success (approximately $1200 raised for Ariel!) thanks to all you incredibly generous people. I can't say enough how awesome it was at the concert to have Bill Miller fans - not even connected to the Gathering - participate in the raffle. The warmth and intimate feelings that engulfed that deck overlooking the river...well, it just makes my heart soar! Thanks especially to Ann and Bill for arranging the concert and donation. Your sleep deprivation is MOST appreciated! And thanks to Elaine for picking up Bill Miller from the airport. (I know how much you hated that job, Elaine!)

Looking forward to hearing everyone check in as they arrive home safe and sound.

Hey, Stan!

I don't know about the rest of the folks in Mohicanland but as for myself, I'd have to start working out to the "Buns of Steel" video tonight & keep at it for a whole year, before I would ever consider participating in "Name That Cheek!"

Many, many thanks once again to you & Terry for allowing me to ride all over the countryside with you - and also to Claude Williams, and Donna & her husband, as well! Everybody at the Gathering was just wonderful. It was great meeting everyone & I truly feel like I formed several new friendships. I know this Gathering is "barely" over (apologies to those in the "Name That Cheek" photo!) but I am already looking forward to next year!

By the way, it might be as late as this weekend but I will be getting my pictures from the Gathering developed - including the ones I took on the Nolichucky trip. I haven't forgotten my promise to you & Terry & I will mail you prints of the river trip (assuming that waterproof camera & the film inside survived my many trips into the river, that is!). By the way, I need to get your address so that I can mail those to you!

Off to rub some more aloe vera gel on the ol' sunburn! Take care & I'll see you in June!

Dianne,
I think you were one of very few, perhaps the only one, to have a camera on the river. Is there any way you could post those pictures on the message board when you get them? Do you have a scanner? If not, maybe one of the people you are sending copies to has one and would be so kind as to post them. Pictures of the river, or proof of our anguish, will be rare! I find myself trying to describe that day but words seem to fall short hahahaha Anyway, thanks!

Stephanie and all,

I also received my copy of the Program Guide - and what a great job!! Mary, Chris and Stephanie, good on you!!! (From someone who knows how much work it is....). Thank you for sending it Stephanie. Like Clabert, I opened it up and saw this nice little postcard. Hmmm. nice touch. Even nicer that that so many took the time to sign it! Thank you! Very touching to read all of the new and old friends' names. (And to those who didn't sign it......)

Looks like everyone had a marvelous time, with loads of down time, right???? Ha, Ha! Am looking forward to more picures and further reviews.

Love the Cheeks Review (or is that Redux?)...although I did guess Stan the man right away; then Marc (glad to see the shirt you won last year; is it?) and Bill the bushwacker...the red coated lass does escape me, however.

Very happy a good time was had by all; you probably had a very quiet screening of the movie for once to top it off!!

Hi, Stephanie!

I'm going to be getting all of my pictures developed within the next several days, including the ones I took on the river. If that waterproof camera & the film inside did survive the trip, Rich has already asked me to send copies to him, so that he can post them on the Board. If you they turn out well & you would still like a set of prints to call your very own, I think we can probably work that out!

Back to work for now (groan!) - hope to hear from you soon!

Jo,

I, for one, did note the lack of movie raucousness of previous years. Gee...can't imagine why! Not to mention - no Magua's Moll yelling, "I'm comin' honey" to Wes. Besides, most of us were dizzy with exhaustion from dodging rocks in the Nolichucky all day. Stephanie, you weren't the only one fighting to keep your eyes open! Just unheard of...falling asleep during LOTM??

Missed you, Jayne

The best screening though had to be from Gathering #1 - upside down and backwards!

Am I the only one who has returned home pure STUPID TIRED? I knew this years Gathering was just as special as all the others when, while driving home, I felt the same level of post-Gathering depression I have every other year. Man, I can't believe I've got to wait 12 more months to see all these folks again. I'm still shaking out my thoughts and feelings over this past advencha', but wanted to post a few sights and sounds from last weekend.

"If anyone has a hot one, he needs to get it off in the next 4 minutes"...overheard at the Black Powder Shoot Thursday afternoon.

"Oh, I went swimming. I was violently ejected from the raft." "Did they get you pulled back in the boat OK?" "No, you don't understand...we were A-L-L violently ejected."...regarding the raft trip on Friday.

"Yeah Rich got out to get his duck unstuck, and it left without him!"...regarding same as previous.

"Hey look at him go, he's surfing. WOW...a 360. Go, Man!"... "I can tell by the look on his face, he's not meaning to do that! He's trying to get out of the rapid, not stay in it"...raft trip again.

"No really, I'm OK. It's just a scratch"...said Dane, as the long red ribbon of blood trailed his funyak in the river after an awesome self rescue!.

"OMIGOD, JAYNE!" said while viewing swollen, purple, bumpy, red bruised triceps from the "SURVIVOR - NOLICHUCKY" show. Outlast, Outbruise, Outdrown, Outswim, Outrow, Out-swallow-river-water, Out...like a light that night!

"I hope he doesn't find a bunch of leeches in his drawers this evening!"...after watching Jamey (Sharon and Eric's son) after a frolick in Bridel Veil Falls.

"I don't know where they are...I knocked them up this morning"...said at Green Knob Overlook.

"Let me get a shot of this B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L sunrise"...said as Phil points at the thick soupy FOG!!!!!

"No wonder the Civil War took so long to fight...it takes FOREVER to get anywhere down here"...said by Mama Morgan after a grueling foggy Blue Ridge Parkway drive Sunday morning.

And...as I donned my brand new Eddie Bauer 2 liter water backpack with patented *Bite-me* valve, as I go to take a sup of water...someone asks,"Oh...do you have asthma...are you hiking with oxygen?"...then Claude says..."If she's got oxygen, she's gonna share!"

"SHUT-UP!!!! I only have 183 minutes to sleep!!!" Said every night...only the minute part changed!

They went something like that anywho! Well, Gadget Girl has her work cut out for her for next year. I will turn my efforts to finding a way to handicap the "younguns" for next year's MOHICALYMPICS, especially if there's BRANDY to be won.

More reflections later. Hope those we've yet to hear from made it home safe and sound AND AT LEAST AS TIRED AS ME!!!!!!!!

GG (Diana S.)

Thanks, GG, for posting that! Priceless!

Damn, woman ... I think we's hooked! I'm gonna sit down on Saturday, and attempt a retelling worthy of the event ... in all probability, I'll fail in that attempt - words won't do it justice - but, at least I've got pictures to post! Speaking of, I've got about 15 shots on the Nolichucky. Came out great! Of course, they're all taken in the calm & serene moments - our memories, and GG's quotes above, will have to do for the rest ... unless RSW (Rattlesnake Woman) managed an "action" shot or two!

Oh ... and Phil ... Who is this masked man? He's been mentioned a couple of times in these posts, so you may be getting the idea that he was at the Gathering? Man, was he! This year, the Sweetser 4 couldn't attend. We needed a replacement. 'Nuff said!

Hello, Everyone!

To respond to Gadget Girl's question, the answer is YES - I also returned home "stupid tired!" As a matter of fact, my ankles & feet are still swollen from all that hiking! I'm also still rubbing aloe vera gel on my legs, which were sunburned while I was "ducking" & swimming & rafting & ducking & swimming some more down the Nolichucky!

In spite of all that, I'm also suffering from post-Gathering blues. I had the most wonderful time I've ever had in my entire life & I can't wait to do it all again next year!

Thanks for posting all of those great quotes, by the way! I overheard some of those myself & they're just as funny to read now as they were when I first heard them!

Hello All! Stupid Tired #3 here, and yes, going through those Mohican Gathering Withdrawals as well. Dianna I loved your quotes! By the way, are you going to the Highland Games this year? They are mid-July.

Okay so Jule and I were talking about the ultimate fate of Soldier #2 in the movie, and we've got a few ideas. We all assumed he died, right? If dead, he could not have grunted when Magua kicked him. So,, perhaps Soldier #2 lived after all, and just waited for the cave to clear out before he got back on his feet. After wiping away all the leeches, he sets out to rescue the young ladies as well. Alas, our poor galliant Soldier #2 is a bit late.(He stopped to play in the surf on the river.) He is sprinting down the mountain to the Huron Village just as Hawkeye is leading Cora away. This explains what the Huron warrior is looking at over his shoulder at while the others are stringing up Duncan.... he is looking in dread and fear at the arrival of Soldier #2. While our heroes engage in dramatic struggle high amidst the rocks, Soldier #2 destroys, pillages, and burns the Huron village. This explains why, when you are looking down on it from CRP, there is almost no sign of it left. After destroying the village, he dashes over to the rocky cliffs just in time to catch Alice with outstretched arms! What a hero!
Why, you ask, is none of this shown in the movie? Simply put, Hawkeye had a better agent.

Stupid tired is as stupid tired does, I suppose. It does take a while to recoup from this wonderful adventure we call the Gathering. But, when all is said and done at the end of the day, I wouldn't have changed a thing nor would I have it any other way. In case I haven't extended my thanks to those of you who pulled this off...THANK YOU ALL! As usual, we had the time of our lives.

Diana, thanks for the laugh this morning. I overheard most all of them. Hilarious!! I happened to overhear another one from the Nolichucky River:

"I prefer my women in the front." Wayne, USA Raft Guide.

And, Rich, thanks for posting Karen and Phil's picture. They were absolutely delightful. He kept me in stitches the whole time. Hope he's enjoying Madeleine!

YAYYYYYYYY, let's hear it for Soldier #2!!!!!!!!! Too funny, Steph!

And Yes, Christina (The Red-haired Lass) called me Tuesday evening for a full gathering report and to solidify our GMHG plans. We plan on heading that way Friday(12th) early afternoon and being there all day Saturday (which is when most *stuff* happens) and most of the day Sunday. Cecelia is most likely coming also as well as my 15yearold daughter and her best friend (Two more Red-Haired Lasses). Five chicks plus you would make a SIX-PACK!!! Email me and we'll decide on a meeting point somewhere if you'd like!!! Anybody else????

Ok....you people are KILLING me here!!

If I thought last weekend was bad....knowing you were all out there...this I think is worse! No, maybe thats unfair....its great hearing that y'all had such a good time....and I just LOVED the quotes Diana...they killed me...and made me take a long trip down memory lane, thinking about jokes and wisecracks from gatherings past.

Last night, I stuck in the old DVD and settled down to watch LOTM (again!)....it wasn't quite the same as seeing that crackly old reel with the rest of the gang, but it was still pleasurable.

I can't wait to see all the pics, I can't wait for next year when maybe, just maybe, I might be back out there with you all again. In the meantime...there are some serious questions that need answering....

1) Did anyone cry at the top of Table Rock?
2) Did any room end up with twice the occupants that it started with?
3) Did anyone get chased by a golf cart?
4) Did anyone have car trouble? (probably not, because the Huggy jinx wasn't there )
5) Anyone pee in a car park?? (hahaha!)
6) How long exactly was the line for the toilets at Table Rock?
7) Did anyone do the walk from the carpark to the top of Chimney Rock and back down again? (Ilse and I want to know if our stamina record has been broken!)
8) Did anyone find a cheese puff bush? (I doubt it..only one as talented as Clabert could do that!)
9) Anyone find my sanity? I think I lost it somewhere on the Death March last year......

and last but not least....

10) Can anyone explain to me why....in the scene where Duncan meets Webb, Soldier #2 is the only one scratching his butt and playing with his rifle, whilst all the other soldiers are standing to attention??

Hugzz old friends, and new friends that I may hopefully meet next year!

After listening to many of Phil's loud one liners (I truly believe that he was trying to scare away any bears from us while we were hiking) I would not be surprised at all to find out that Phil was a long lost Sweetser sibling

As for post Mohican Gathering mementos we rather not have, I have still have a slight rash on each of my rib cage thanks to the very tight USA Rafting life preserver jacket as well as slightly sore hands from all that funyak paddling. Debbie has a bug bite that itches her from our hiking "adventcha".

Huggy,
As for Soldier #2, I have the explanation for why he is the only one scratching his butt and playing with his rifle. One word: LEECHES!

Hahahaha Thanks for the laughs, I had forgotten all about the Cheese Puff bush, a rare find indeed.
Theresa, Thanks for the Wayne quote! Wayne's World will never be the same I fear.... I will never forget the look on his face when he said "I won't forget this trip for a loooooonnnngggg time!" Hmmm wonder what THAT was supposed to mean?
