Ok, Huggy ... Here's the answers!
quote:
1) Did anyone cry at the top of Table Rock?
A- Only due to anguish ... maybe laughter after the "butt shot".
quote:
2) Did any room end up with twice the occupants that it started with?
A- Rooms? Who had time to stay in rooms?
quote:
3) Did anyone get chased by a golf cart?
A- Certainly not! We're not that kind of crowd. But, we did have the WNC Flower Cops after one of us ...
quote:
4) Did anyone have car trouble? (probably not, because the Huggy jinx wasn't there )
A- You are correct! Diana S. did manage to keep the "locking-your-keys-in-the-vehicle" tradition alive, though!
quote:
5) Anyone pee in a car park?? (hahaha!)
A- No, not that I know of, but I'd bet there was a pee or two in a Duckie!
quote:
6) How long exactly was the line for the toilets at Table Rock?
A- About half as long as last year.
quote:
7) Did anyone do the walk from the carpark to the top of Chimney Rock and back down again? (Ilse and I want to know if our stamina record has been broken!)
A- I believe Pat & Yogi accomplished, and maybe surpassed, your feat.
quote:
8) Did anyone find a cheese puff bush? (I doubt it..only one as talented as Clabert could do that!)
A- Nah ... but we did find the remnants of Clabert's dreamcatcher up on Table Rock!
quote:
9) Anyone find my sanity? I think I lost it somewhere on the Death March last year......
A- Huggy! You know better than to ask that!
quote: and last but not least....
10) Can anyone explain to me why....in the scene where Duncan meets Webb, Soldier #2 is the only one scratching his butt and playing with his rifle, whilst all the other |

I'll be there, I can tell you that! Hope you are!
Duh Rich! Talking about a 6th Gathering already????? Isn't that a bit risque?
Kidding aside, I never knew until this year what it was like to watch this thing from afar, and now I know it is very unpleasant to do so. So you can bloody well count me in for a 6th, come hell or high water
Over the last few days I missed everybody I'd meeting again and everybody I'd be meeting for the first time.

Ilse, Adele, Caitlin, Jo, Clabert, & all 'Ghosts of Gatherings Past' -
Not to rub salt into your wounds, but .... you missed a good one. Not only was there a great itinerary (most of which I was forced to forego), there was a rejuvenating feel to this Gathering. It really felt like the first one! There was time, somehow, to get to know people better. (Even for me - with only two evenings to do it.) *(Jayne, Karen, Stephanie, Theresa, ... all good humored lasses when not drowning in the Nolichucky or being scandalized on Table Rock!) *Had the pleasure of talking more at length with Miss Alaska (who had the unadulterated excitement of a first-timer) - even though the Can-Tiki Bar closed waaaaay too early. *Did my usual 'Errand Girl' run while everyone else cavorted at the French Broad River hacking their way through the wilderness & burying their hatchets for wampum & brandy. (Yes, Jayne, I really hated that task ... good thing Bill Miller is a nice guy! Returning later on the way to SOTR, found him watching news coverage of some group called 'Mohicanlanders' running around CRP. "All they showed was their feet! I wanted to see more.") *SOTR - perhaps a return here next year will be in order. It was soooooo good! Nice place, great food ... up close & personal entertainment. ("It isn't for the money. Not gonna get rich coming to Asheville just to play on a deck." - Bill Miller} *Lady Ann & the Macleod - pillars of Mohicanland. Good thing they're both such upright, well behaved, non-scandalizing citizens ... HA! {We's in trouble, Mohicanland. These two are almost cause enough to revive the Courier.} *The Raffle, Ariel's Auction, the Finale - wonderfully successful & lots of fun! {Even though it was obviously rigged - our new Mohicanlanders from Hawaii & Patrick Q literally 'stole' all the goods ...} A 6th? Plans were made, no one was scared ... you won't want to miss it again.
Prelim-Plot-Preview: -Doc Mary has promised to come. We have an *agreement* that is written in blood. {Don't we, Sister-in-Jadedness???} The good Doc will be holding two seminars; "Healthy Hearts: Channeling Your Inner Magua" & "Frontier S & M for Bored Cabinwives." (Proper leather attire can be bought from Lady Ann. Brain-tanned preferred. Boots optional.} -A possible trek 'unto the hills' ... shhhhhh, Steph! Not a word! -A 'Family Reunion' meal on site at the French Broad River ... with more wampum & brandy & 'roots' music to wash it all down. -A mobile DNA lab to see if Phil is REALLY a Sweetser & to authenticate various specimens collected on the Cliff Trails. -A Mohicanland Trading Post to shame past Trading Posts ... {French Trader, be forewarned - you are not alone!} -Maybe more meandering, mooning, drowning, fainting, bruising, swelling, itching, climbing, thirst, hunger, sleep deprivation, and other assorted fun activities. -Guest(s) .... ah, yes. How about .... oops! Run out of

Hi everyone! Ariel Segal reporting in. How is everyone? Rich, Lady Ann , The MacLeod, Gadget Girl, ETC ETC. I got home safe on the Greyhound (albeit the bus stations aren't the most savory places; For the 6th and Last, I'll maybe get a plane!) Anyone heard from Patrick Quinn?
I'm headed to Denver next week, WAY beyond Can-tuck-ee. I'll see the Rockies; no kudzu, but perhaps less homey than the good ol' Blue Ridge. I already miss you all. Keep in touch.
Sincerely, Ariel Segal

Please bear with me as this is the first time I've posted on this new forum. I'm just sorry I couldn't have participated more this year. I fully intended to meet you at Linville Falls, but due to a foot injury (yes, I did it dancing but it's almost good as new now) I couldn't make it. I enjoyed seeing old friends and meeting new folks, and hope you'll come back to the NC mountains again so I can take you on that canoe ride across Lake James! "Head for the river!" |

...and we missed you, too! I assume you made it to Atlanta and back without too much road construction Now about this canoe trip...does your canoe have a trolling motor and one of those thingys Eric was telling us about that helped to direct it? Good to see you made it home. And take care of that foot....hey! Maybe you could give us a little demonstration next year!?

Hey Y'All,
Just got back from NC Saturday and missing it already! The Mohican Gathering was ABSOLUTELY THE BEST TIME I'VE HAD IN YEARS!!! Thought I was 25 again with the nonstop pace and the Great Raft Adventure (thanks Rich). Bill Miller at "Spirits" was awesome (thanks Ann) and the hiking over cliffs and around (and under) waterfalls was the stuff of dreams--at least mine and Yogi's.
After the letdown Sunday night of saying goodbye to all you great folks, Yogi and I continued our Mohican adventure by visiting The Biltmore (a bit overwhelming) and doing some more hiking. Yogi decided (without warning) to do his own DDL impression and went over a waterfall. Yeah, that's right. Yogi went OVER A WATERFALL (and lives to wag his tail). The middle fall at Triple Falls in Dupont to be exact. We were climbing and he lost his footing on the wet rock, slipped into the falls and went over as I watched in horror. Thank God, he landed in a deep pool and was able to swim out, a little winded, but basically none the worse for wear. Of course, if he'd had to track Madelaine Stowe to a Huron village afterward....
Anyway, we're both in agreement that we had a great time and we'd love to attend gathering #6, so mark us down to be there next June. See ya then!
Pat & Yogi

Pat...glad to hear you made it home safe and in one piece (Yogi, too, barely!). Susan, sorry to hear about your foot but it was sure nice to see you Thursday morning. Anyone who has not taken Susan's canoe trip is in for a real treat. It was the highlight of my first Gathering. I didn't even have to row! Hey Susan where were you when I needed you on the Nolichucky! Can't wait to see you all at #6!!!!!!!!!! Stephanie

Oh PAT! I read in horror about poor Yogi. Having a beloved dog of my own (a 10 year old German Shepherd) I can't imagine the helplessness you must've felt. So glad to hear Yogi came out unscathed!
Did you remember passing a dog with some bikers on the Corn Mill Shoals trail from Bridal Veil Falls that looked not unlike Yogi?? Same size, similar breed, but grayer? Well, I had some bikers about to toss ME over some falls when I started trying to coax their dog away from them..."Yogi, come on, why aren't you with your Mom?" I realized it wasn't Yogi right before the guys started to chase me off! Welllllllll???
Enjoyed meeting you and Yogi. Hope to see you next year, too!

It's hard for this guy to know what to say, and even harder to say it. One thing that is easy to say, for sure, is that once again it seems a very successful Gathering brought folks together for good times and comradery. Once again, a Gathering introduced new folks to sights, sounds, and places connected to a movie they love - and they found love and friendship into the bargain. I missed the first one. It must surely have felt like this one as Rich describes it. Each one I had attended though, had all the elements I observe this one seems to also have had. Hmmmmm. Ya know what? Though each one is different, with different places, sights and sounds.........there seems to be something constant going on too. Comradery, friendship and love would be my guess. I am so happy for those who attended - both previous gatherers and new folks - that they were able to experience those things that made Gatherings special yet again.
Truly and sincerely, I am happy for your shared happiness and advencha.
God bless you all, and his peace and love continue to shine on you.

O’siyo, Everyone! Well, here it is—my first message ever posted on any board, anywhere, at any time!!! Now who could POSSIBLY have guessed it would be on the MOHICAN BOARD? Wow, did that movie EVER change my life!! I’ve gone places, done things, met people, and acquired knowledge & useless stuff I never could have imagined possible only 11 short months ago. And most importantly, it led me here to Mohicanland.
Let me introduce myself. I’m Karen, the little squaw next to the big teddy bear-looking guy (Phil) in Rich’s picture. (A very clever and “Subtil” way to draw us out, Rich!)
I’ve been lurking around this board for a few weeks now—enjoying, laughing, and learning quite a bit from you guys. Somehow, I knew that even though this was our first Gathering, Phil and I would feel right at home. How right I was! We were made to feel welcome from the very start, and the smaller gathering size made it easy to mingle with and meet almost everyone.
So many thoughts and feelings to share—too many to throw out in one post. It’s going to take a number of these messages to unload everything that is dancing around in my heart and head so I will limit myself this time to 2 more things.
First, to all of those who couldn’t be with us, don’t think for a minute you weren’t missed. Roz, Clabert, the Sweetser 4 to name just a few. We haven’t even met yet, but I feel like I know you all. Your names were mentioned with such affection by so many of the “seasoned veterans” that I began to miss you, too. Yeah! Yeah! Roz was SUPPOSED to be here, but I heard some flimsy excuse about going to some Powwow with Russell Means instead—like who’s he and why would you want to do that! Did you REALLY yell out “I’m coming, honey!” with Wes Studi in the theatre??? This is a woman I HAVE to meet!!!
And secondly, let me thank GG for sharing her humorous remembrances, and let me add one more. Heard behind me on one of the early treks (before I knew everyone), but most probably coming from one of those NY wild women, (Eileen, perhaps?) “This is NOT sweat. I’m GLISTENING. Women don’t sweat. We glisten!”
And yeah, Rich, I'm still smiling!
Phil's Squaw Karen

Hey Karen,
It is SOOOOOOO great to see you post. I, too, once was a virgin gatherer (many "moons" ago) and it is hard to not bubble over with feelings for the folks than become part of a Mohican Gathering. I enjoyed FINALLY getting to talk to you the last evening and wish I had had more time to get to know you and Phil both better. I don't think I ever saw you without a big grin on your face!! Do make plans for next year! All previous year's gadgets have been directed at reducing any "glistening" of Phil's "breed apart", but next year it may shift to subduing any competitors for BRANDY!!!!!!!
Let us hear from you now that YOU are no longer a "virgin" poster!!

Whew! We're finally semi-settled in our new home~including the unexpected addition of a 3 month old kitten thanks to Jayne's oldest son. We hadn't planned on a kitty this soon, but she was too cute to say no. Anyway. I have finally had a chance to sit down and get caught up on all the latest news on the board. It's so much fun to read everyone's memories of the Gathering and know that everyone is as anxious as I am for the next one. I'm glad to know that everyone got home ok~so far. Guess there are still those on their way! I'm so glad I was able to get to know so many fellow Gatherers better this year and I miss you all. Jim has about decided he needs to get in on this as it was all I could talk about when I got home~and still am! Best wishes to all! Karen W

Great to see both Gathering Karens on the Board!
Guess who popped up at the Post Office this day???? Scottie Willis ... bearing the wonderful collection of photos that is his. Figured I'd post that news here, in the Gathering section, as those pics were such a big part of both Gatherings I & V. Chose this particular thread because I know Karen S. has been anxiously awaiting this news ...
So, Karen, this shot's for you!
There are many more, and I'll be scanning a whole bunch. It'll take me awhile to wade through them, but you won't be disappointed! |
