Light, There are a couple of ways that you can help out. If you have something that you think would be good for Ariel's Auction or the raffle, then just bring the item with you to the Gathering and donate it, or if you don't have anything to donate, then you can bid on the items that we will have at the auction or you can buy raffle tickets. The money that we make from the auction goes to our little Ariel and her family. The proceeds from the raffle pay for different expenses that we might have at the Gathering. It is all alot of fun, and we raise money for a good cause. I will be heading up the raffle next year, but we are going to need someone to be in charge of Ariel's Auction. If anybody thinks that they would want to do it, just let me know and I will help out all that I can. Also, if anyone wants to help plan the Gathering, just let Rich know and he will add you to the Gathering Planners Forum. We need all the help that we can get (In more ways than one).

Quick question for all past gatherers. I am trying to save up money so that I can go next year. Any ideas of how much it has cost in the past so I can get an idea of how much I can spend of the money I just got. |

LLOF, It really all depends on which activites that will be scheduled for 2008. I think that if you put back $200.00, then you would be able to do all of the activities. It will probably be alot less than that, but I am thinking about Nolichucky, Biltmore, Chimney Rock, Blue Ridge Motion Picture Studio, Spirits On The River( If it is still open), and maybe watching LOTM at the theater(if it is still open.) Dupont State Forest and Linville Gorge are free. Then of course, you want to save a little money for the raffle and Ariel's Auction. Now, you will want to think about the hotel, and how many days you will want to be there. Some Gatherers stay for the entire Gathering, and some can only make it a couple of days. We will probably try to get a hotel somewhere in the 70-80 dollar range, but if you have roomies, then that cuts down on the hotel charge. See you in 2008.

I know that once it gets closer, the volunteer organizers kinda give you an idea about the costs involved for each activity and lodging. Another thing to consider is gas money. Overall though, you can decide what activities you want to do. They are all enticing, but if you don't do them or can't do them all during the Gathering, that's just another great excuse to come back!
As Kay says, you always want to save a little money for the raffle and Ariel's Auction. - well, that's a given because there is always something for everyone and it's a great cause! ~
If you can go, I highly recommend it! |

Let's be bold and daring. Let's ask both DDL and Madeline. Anybody have an address for either?
Who knows maybe this is something they want to share with their kids. Like look and see what daddy or mommy was a part of.
The waterfalls at Dupont State Park would be great.

Sunshine, It would be great to have one or both of them at the Gathering, but that means fundraising for their travel expenses and hotel room. Plus they may want a fee for a speaking engagement. It is hard to raise money for this kind of thing. But, let's never say never. Stranger things have been known to happen.

I would love to be at Gathering/08 and am starting now to try to figure out all the whys, hows and whats that would be part of such a massive undertaking. I live in Canada so am clueless about traveling in the States. Don't want to take up tons of room here with questions about how to get there, where to stay, how much $ the gathering+activities+food..etc would approximately cost. Could someone in the 'Know' possible start a thread with this type of information in it Please Thanks for any help.

Do come with, Obi! I'm sure we can find some nearby sink holes to wrastle in!
Then that would leave Irish...we gotta' convince you to come girl! We got till 08 to do it!

But if Dustbunny does want to come along we're all for it.
And Lapus, I live in KY very close to the Nrthrn KY Grtr Cincin-nasty Airport. If you fly into CVG I can pick you up and we can make the mountain drive together!

LOL!! Gods I love you Light of The Moon you rock Babe! Yeah I got some pretty good Uncas pics I guess... **Lapus looks over her 'Walks With Cheek Bones' pic collection** I'm hopelessly addicted I admit it!
Would love to fly in to KY and then make the drive with you guys that would be so great, especially since I have no idea how to drive..never learned how So I would fly to Cincinati(sp) airport? Sorry not really that familiar with how the States are joined together *sigh* My main prob is trying to guess how much $ all this will cost and save for it. I'm not the best at & management

Well, the best way to go about it is to call the airlines and ask about fare rules for booking from where your departing to your destination. I think they can book out as far as 11 months in advance and keep an eye on your reservation for any slight changes or fare drops! I'd say call about every other week to inquire on these things.
If you prefer to book through the web - orbitz.com is the best. Displays all the carrier in that route and their fares from lowest to highest and shows you their schedules.
Flying into CVG is the closest for me. I'm 10 min. from the airport. However, it tends to be a tad bit pricey when compared to Louisville KY(SDF), which is along the way. So either of those two would do well.
And if you couldn't tell by now, yes, I worked at an airline before.
Just PM me if you need help! |

Awwwwww, yeah! Or should I stick to my Texan roots and say yeee-haw?
And don't forget about your friends Jack Daniels and Jim Beam.
The redneck bunk is sounding better and better!
And, BTW, Obi: you need to be taken to the mudpit again!

OR you could fly into Raleigh-Durham, which is usually pretty cheap. I live in Wake Forest and go to school/work in Chapel Hill, both of which are pretty darn close to RDU. If you don't mind riding with me and Jose in a lime green VW Beetle, that is! |

Thanks RedFraggle, really sweet of you. I'm checking out the airfare..etc that I would have to come up with to get there. Another question, anyone know what the Gathering itself is going to cost? Is it one flat entracne fee or is there other stuff to pay for as well? Sorry to be constantly asking questions but I don't want to miss out on anything because I didn't have the $ to pay.

That would be good to know. But Lapus, if you fly to RDU you'll miss the beautiful mountain drive through northern TN. Breathtakingly beautiful. That is one good thing about living in KY. Driving through the mountains. <<Sigh>>
You could even fly into Knoxville, TN. It's along the way too and is usually super cheap on airfare. |

Lapus, It is all going to depend on which activities are selected. That is the reason that Stephanie does these polls, so that she can get a better idea of what everybody would like to do. The two most expensive activities are river rafting on the Nolichucky River and going to Biltmore House. It hasn't been decided if we will even do either one of these, but let's say Stephanie did include Nolichucky in the activities, I would opt out of that one because I am a chicken when it comes to water. You choose what you want to do. Your biggest expense will be your traveling expense and your hotel room, but if you are bunking with three other girls, then that will drop dramatically.

In the mood of questions. Does anyone know how to contact DDL or MS or their agents? I am curious if 1. they would consider it and 2. exactly how much they would charge. As Kay said Never say never. |
