I just got finished putting my daughter's Halloween costume on her--to make sure we've got it all and it fits. She's going to be Legolas from Lord of the Rings. I must have spent $80 on it all: costume, boots, leggings, ears, bow/arrows, quiver, elf pin to hold the cape together and on and on! I'm not even sure that I want to add it all up.
So, is anyone else dressing up themselves or a child for Halloween? What are you dressing up as? (. . .dressing up as...is that even correct English?)

Seamus, you mean you're not going to scare all of the children in your new neighborhood with your scary 18th century ghostly guy getup???
I don't do scary. But if the weather is decent, I usually put on one of my 18th century outfits, light my candle lantern, put the candy in a handled basket and sit out on my big front porch. I always get a lot of comments, from "I really like your costume" to "Oh! You look really neat!" to "Look at the Colonial lady!" to "Hi, Martha!" Well, at least some of them get the time period right, which usually surprises me. One man who was accompanying his family said to me, "Please tell me you don't dress that way all of the time." I said, "No, I don't. But I am a re-enactor, so I do dress this way a lot of the time!" |

Good for you WW. I always like it when the homeowners who are handing out candy get into the spirit and dress up. We've had several warm Halloweens since I've been living in PA so there are always a few who sit out on the porch, as you do.
I don't plan to dress up, because I'll be busy taking my 6-year-old from house to house, so won't even be home to hand out candy. Don't worry, we'll put peanut M&M's out in a help-yourself-bowl for you, Seamus!! |

That's because the bowl and the M&Ms will be invisible, too. Right, Winglo? Good luck finding them, Seamus!
I am looking forward to going out with my grandson and his mommy next year. He just learned to walk, so hitting the sidewalks could be a bit slow this year. He's going to be a monkey this year, but will only visit the houses of a few people he knows. |

| And this weekend is also the Battle of Camden. A tradition there is that on Saturday night the Brits celebrate Guy Fawkes day. They have a huge bonfire and lots of fireworks and the occasional cannon. It's better when that Saturday falls on the 5th, but no matter the date, the result is the same. Oh, and they have rum, too. |

Hi, everybody! Been gone for a long time, but it's good to be back. On the subject of Halloween, I don't usually dress up but I'm pretty sure I could make a passable pumpkin this year if I chose to. Maybe an orange T-shirt with a jack o'lantern face on it?

By the way, GG, Captain Rehab? Took me a minute to get it, but I love it! Hee hee! |

Why, Miss Red! Welcome back, and just look at you!! What a nice surprise that is. Congratulations. I don't recall an announcement on these boards. Did I miss one? Is this your first? Do we know the sex?
Let's see... you look like you are maybe about 7 months along? When is the little one due? |

I have to "fess up" that she told a few of us shortly after she found out and then a couple of months ago she posted the pics in her album of the ultrasound. I guess none of you guys noticed those pics but if you are still interested in sex or I should say the sex of the baby just go there and all will be revealed. |

Thanks for the congrats, everybody! I have to fess up to something too. I didn't make a big announcement on the board because I'm a little superstitious, I suppose. It's my first baby and I didn't want to make a big deal out of it, and then have something go wrong. (I didn't even tell my own parents until after the first trimester! )
But I'm healthy so far, right at 30 weeks along, and don't have much more time to go. Official due date is January 5th, but the doc says any time between Christmas and the third week of January is my time frame. We think it's a boy but the ultrasound tech didn't sound too very sure, so we'll see. Hubby of course is convinced it's a boy, but I keep telling him he might get a big surprise when the delivery happens!
Whether it's a girl or a boy, I'll definitely have to dress him/her up next year in some sort of outlandish Halloween costume that will be the cause of much embarrassment throughout the teen and adult years.
Be sure to post pics of your little ones (or yourselves) in costume, everybody! |

Well, I called that one about right, eh?
I know what you mean about jinxing yourself, Red. I was the same way with my first, and even then... I almost lost him right at the end of my 1st trimester with a small partial separation of the placenta. But, he was a tough little guy and we pulled through it together, and he is just fine today at the age of 27.
I agree with Irish... you look wonderful! Pregnancy suits you well. Are you feeling OK?
Have you made a final decision on names yet? |

| It's weird with my kids' schools, one won't allow makeup or masks and you have to bring your costume to change into for their "party", then with another there are no witches or monsters allowed. Hmmm, where has Halloween gone to? |
