Exactly things have changed and not for the better. My older two teens were able to dress up and had "Halloween parties" in school when they were younger but now the same school does not even recognize Halloween and guess what?...no parties. Very sad indeed for the kids and Christmas is almost as bad. Don't get me started.......
I meant "pretty witch" winglo as opposed to the typical scary, ugly, green-faced wart on nose witch. She is only four and would definitely scare herself to death. |

| Yes, IG, that's what I thought. There will be tons of princesses, fairies, beautiful witches, ballerinas, etc. at my daughter's school on Friday. It's funny, but she's not interested in being one of those at all. She was Darth Vader last year and this year she is going to be Legolas--mostly because she can then carry a bow and arrows and wear a fake knife! |

Ah! A young wench after mine own heart! She just needs a pistol to complete her "impression!"
I have just ordered a replica of an 18th century folding pocket knife. It's something I've been needing in my kit. Nothing expensive or fancy, but hopefully very useful. |

I know what you mean about jinxing yourself, Red. I was the same way with my first, and even then... I almost lost him right at the end of my 1st trimester with a small partial separation of the placenta. Yep, you got it, WW! Also glad to know I'm not the only "superstitious" one when it comes to baby things.  Thanks, too, for the compliment.  I've been exercising and doing mild weight training three times a week, and it's really helped, I think. (Women at church kept telling me how they gained 50, 60, or 70 lbs. when pregnant and I was determined NOT to do that!) As for names, hubby and I have a "short list," but we really haven't decided. We're trying to keep mum about it because his parents have definite ideas about what the name should be. My mother-in-law even called to say that, until further notice, she's calling the baby Matthew!  If that's not a hint (or maybe a giant push), then I don't know what is!

Hubby's school has the same "no party" policy, except it's no parties of ANY kind. Teachers aren't allowed to bring candy or baked goods to their students, and there is a no junk food rule (which cuts out pizza parties) because the administration simply can't have teachers condoning junk food and jeopardizing their students' health with an occasional cupcake. I guess they overlooked the fact that the school cafeteria still sells hamburgers, chicken nuggets, French fries, and other junk items!  |

Have to say your mom-in-law has excellent taste in baby names My youngest boy is called Matthew Think carefully what you call the little tyke as they are stuck with it for the rest of their lives and you don't want them to get teased in school by giving them some strange name like the celebs do Apple, Banjo etc
By the way that was my kid's schools who don't have Halloween parties or even mention Halloween and Christmas just as bad

Well, from my meager understanding, Halloween was a pagan tradition and originated to ward off the evil spirits, not encourage them. That was Hollywood that brought in the other stuff.
Let the poor kids be KIDS! *sigh* they grow up too quickly anyway. I mean, it's sad that kids now have to resort to "Trunk or Treat" or the mall and not go through neighborhoods.
That is funny about the no junk rule... my kids had french toast and french fries offered for lunch the other day. I mean, come on!
Irish, you look great! Keep it up! I too kept active and didn't gain the dreaded 50+ pounds.

I totally agree, Red does look great!!! I'm so happy for her! I also waited awhile before I told anyone we were expecting our first baby as well. I'm very superstitious. But I can't wait to see baby pics!
I know that I'm behind on this thread but things have finally settled down for me to spend some time on the board. We had just moved to Texas when Halloween came around. So I think we were only at our new home two days before the holiday. Anyhow, we dressed our little man up as a skunk, the hubby actually dressed up this year as Ron Burgundy in "Anchor Man", and I wore the same outfit I did last year. We had a great night and Danny finally got to go trick-or-treating. He loved it and came back with a bag full of goodies. So here's some pics of Daniel and myself. Hope everyone else had a good night.

Your little man is just adorable!
Our little man (my grandson) also dressed as an animal. At 16 months, he's too young to have candy. But, when he spotted my candy basket, he plopped himself right down on the doormat and pulled the basket over so he could begin examining it. Here is our Little Monkey, as he holds a piece of candy aloft to more fully admire its beauty.

Thanks winglo! Halloween is the only time, next to the Alamo reenactment in March, that I can really go all out and act. It's been fun.

Thanks! Yes, I fear that all the girls will melt like chocolate when they look into his amber eyes. Yep. I said amber. They are beautiful, and if he wears green, they turn green.
Yes, Blackie, the costumes these days really are very cute. I always made my kids' costumes, without patterns, I might add. I'll have to see if I can find some photos to show some of them off. |
