Daniel Craig as Hawkeye with Sean Connerry as his papi Chingy and Harry Potter himself Daniel Radcliffe as Uncas. Let's stay English and go with Emma Watson as Alice and Kiera Knightley as Cora. Magua would be played by Capt. Kirk himself William Shatner and the Sachem could be Leonard Nimoy. |

Oh, drat. And I was thinking of even crazier possibilities than Irish's crew.
Ah well. I guess I'd have to go with Lee Horseley as Hawkeye, plus Lynda Carter as his love interest. *YAWN!* That show put me to sleep every time I tried to watch it. What a wimpy hawkeye!
Next vote goes to these goobers. They're supposed to be menacing Hurons. I think the one guy is actually sticking his tongue out!

Now just a minute, Irish! The character of Magua needs to be played by an actor. Wes Studi is an actor; William Shatner (past tense?) is a ... uh ... Canadian! |

Unfortunately, Joe, I don't think you're going to be able to turn this thread in the direction you want it to go.
I haven't seen any of the versions/actors you list, so I can't offer an opinion on the worst of those. I have seen the 1936 version, however, and I like it very much. Yes, I like Randolph Scott as Hawkeye, Binnie Barnes as Cora and Bruce Cabot as Magua. I think they were, for the times, very well cast and their parts were well acted. |

And don't forget Heather Angel as Alice. Yes .. I can see that. The point was lost in the first reply. You really should look up some of the others just for the entertainment value of how they were done back before "our" LOTM was filmed. I'm going to buy the LOTM serials. Though I think Lon Chaney,Jr. should always be remembered as "The Wolfman"...I'd like to see him as Chingachgook...
Geez I just found this... Harry Carey played Hawkeye too..!!!
Here's the version with Lon Chaney.. and John (Lone Ranger) Hart as Hawkeye

Obi, I like the Shat I grew up with the Capt. we all did and as for acting can't go wrong with Bill and his over-acting sometimes. |

I believe that Wm. Shatner "Shat Happens" was super lucky to be in the right place at the right time (sorta like that dimwit who sleepwalked through his lines as Anakin Skywalker)--he couldn't hold a candle acting-wise the the original choice for the Enterprise's captain, Jeffrey Hunter (who played Capt. Christopher Pike in the pilot episode). Sadly, IIRC, Hunter had a bad problem with the bottle & fell down the stairs in his home & died from his injuries.
Man, talk about hijacking a thread! From miscast actors in LOTM to Wm. Shatner! Hijack Happens! |

Or how about Arnie as Magua? In the ambush as everyone is leaving the fort, we can have him knock Col. Munro off his horse, then declare, "I'll be back" before rushing off to create more carnage.

Well that guy Philip Madoc who played Magua in the 1973 Mini-Series was not a great choice. Pretty stiff and Shakespearian if you ask me. The choice for Uncas was not much better. At least get an Indian to play an Indian |

Get an Indian to play an Indian? My! What a novel idea!
With the exception of Jay Silverheels (Tonto), it was extremely rare to find a real Indian playing an Indian up until about 1990. As far as I can recall, Dances With Wolves was pretty much the first movie that used Native Americans in major roles. Then, of course, LOTM came right afterward. Even Iron Eyes Cody, who played small parts in a number of movie Westerns in the 50s, was not a real Indian! He sure looked like one, but he wasn't. He was... are you ready? A full-blooded Italian-American! I was devastated when I found that out. All of my childhood and until just recently, I would have sworn that he was a real Indian.
IG, I think that Philip Madoc tried very hard to act fierce. The problem is that he doesn't look fierce. He is too good-looking, and much too Anglo looking to make a good, scary Magua! |

Remember the 1976 movie "The Outlaw Josie Wales"? With Chief Dan Geroge? At the 2004 Gathering Russell Means said that was one of his favorite movies because of Chief Dan Geroge's role in it. |
