If you could rewrite any scene from the movie, which scene would it be, why would you rewrite it, and how would you rewrite it?

If it were me,I'd have more Natives taking casualties during the battle scenes.Other than the messenger scene in the DVD version, the regulars and provincials are made to look like buffoons in wilderness combat.EM

That's a good question,Keneta!
Well, If I could change some scenes in the movie, I'd modify these:
1- The final dialogue: I'd put in the theatrical version of the film the whole Chingacgook's way of talking.
2- I'd put the missing part of the scene "Fort Approach", in which Uncas was injured.

Please tell me about the missing 'Fort Approach' scene, I'd not heard of it. I heard about the missing Uncas/Alice kiss scene which should NOT have been left out.

Well, Keneta, I don't know very much about that scene; I just know that, while Nathan, Uncas, Chingachgook, the major and the two sisters were approaching the fort, Uncas was cut by a Huron, in fact, before the scene "The courier", you can see Cora while she dresses Uncas'wound.
Hope that it is of help,
Ongewasgone.

See here: The APPROACH Look down near the bottom! So, thus it was scripted. I believe it was Eric Schweig who told us it was indeed filmed. Must've been, as they did show, as Ongewasgone points out, Cora tending to Uncas' wound ...

That would be a good scene to restore to the film!

I would like to have seen Major Hayward's sally from the fort in the movie/VHS version (at least they had enough sense to include it in the DVD). I also agree that the British/Provincials were made to look like buffons that could not hit the broad side of a barn (not at all realistic).

I would have included the full range of British regiments and provincials at the fort. It has always bugged me that they picked one "representitive" British regular uniform at the fort(beside the handful of scottish highland grenadiers). They did the same thing in The Patriot and used one main uniform for the Brits. Monro's Fort William Henry garrison consisted of units of the 27th, 35th, and 60th Regts. of Foot, Royal Artillery, engineers, sailors, and provincials from Mass., NY, NH, NJ, RI and two companies of New Independents, and Putnams connecticut rangers. And of course I would have filmed the ambush/massacre scene as it really happened. The brits didn't have ammunition to fire at the natives, and if they did fire point blank vollies like they did in the film, they would have mowed down hundreds of natives. I've never thought the massacre scene was realistic.

I definatly think they should have put in the scene where Uncas gets his wound, and the love scene between Uncas and Alice. Another thing that I would change, when Duncan's just about to be burned to a crisp, Cora screams "Duncan! What are they doing to Duncan?!?" I think that, even though they had to go rescue Alice and what not, they should have put in another love scene between Hawkeye and Cora. It sort of seems to me that, even though Duncan and Cora were friends (if i understood her correctly when she turned him down), that Cora did care whether or not Duncan lived or died, almost like she had feelings for him...I know that sounds strange, but thats what I thought at first.

i seriously think the approach should have been included...hehe, the gunshot on the website made me jump a bit, too, even tho i knew it was coming. no, cora would never have gone for duncan, cuz he was a hypocrite, and plus, next to DD-L, who wants him....if i could change anything, i would develop a more thorough uncas/alice relationship....

a hippocrite yes...liar...yes....but what would you do if this was your one chance to get back at your arch nemesis? whose word are they going to take? the one of an officer or the one of a scout they barely know. Besides, that came back to haunt him...and he gave his life for her in the end, he realized what a foolish mistake he made...and made up for it.
