Hi all,
I'd like to tell you something about DD-L's performance in LOTM which, maybe, you just know...
Any way, yesterday, I read an article on an Italian magazine. The title was: "Daniel Day Lewis becomes a gangster", and it was about his last film, Gangs of New York. But the very important thing was a piece of information about his work in LOTM: did you know that "Nathaniel", before starting to film the movie, lived for more than a month in the forests, making canoes and eating the animals which he killed?
Well, of course he didn't have to work hard to shoot that elk in the first scene of the movie...
So long guys,
Ongewasgone.

You're right, Onewasgone: most folks who are regulars on this Board are rabid fans of LOTM and/or DDL and were aware of this fact. This is typical of Daniel; when making "The Crucible" he spent time on that film's location & helped construct some of the buildings used in the film, for example.

And I'm sure you're aware that the elk in LOTM was never actually "shot" and killed! You HAVE watched that scene & caught a glimpse of the guy in the red ball cap, running through the bushes not far behind the elk, right???! And when the elk is "shot," you can tell just by looking at it & by the way it falls over that ledge, that this is an elk that has been stuffed & mounted! I doubt that Hawkeye would have found that one to be very tasty!

Really?!!! I haven't noticed that myself! I'll have to watch that scene again!

Thanks for the picture Rich.
Diane, of course I just knew that the elk's death was a trick; I was joking when I wrote that DDL didn't have oroblems in shooting it.
Anyway, thanks for the information
Sincerely,
Ongewasgone

There's a nice interview with DD-L that was done a couple
of years after LOTM where he mentions that while he was
shooting the movie he would tend to wander off in the woods
to be by himself, and sometimes wouldn't hear when they yelled for him to get back to the set. He says, with that charming
DD-L shy smile, that they decided to attach a beeper to
him, "but it really didn't work out too well." LOL!

And Doc M knows full well about the Crucible cabin, having
tried to remove the hand-hewn door as a souvenir along with
the help of her insane cohorts. That didn't work out too
well, either!!

Kissys!

Thanks for the photo Rich! I watched the scene again since I heard about the elk man blooper and still couldn't see it! That's hilarious!

You know the right half of my mind could see DDL out in the woods by himself making canoes and finding food to kill and eat himself. But the other half of my mind says "WOW" DDL doing that all by himself. But while doing the movie I guess he had experiences doing that so maybe I should just go with the right side of my brain than my left. Mohicanwarrior
