Just noticed this thread, so I hope nobody thinks I'm slow (LOL) Anyways, here goes: Well my family on my Mom's side (Phelps) were from Albemarle Co., Va., then ended up in Kentucke at Fort Boonesborough, & were there for the Big Siege of 1778, then after that part of my family made their way towards the new town called Louisville, Ky., formerly the BearGrass Settlement (my cousin Lucy Phelps was the 1st woman to be married in Louisvile, Ky), and the rest of the family headed towards the Cumberland, and settled in what eventually became Somerset, Ky. And since we do 1st person presentations of Simon Kenton & Squire Boone, two very famous Kentuckians, I thought 'Kyfrontiersman' seemed to fit. Mike PS - Kirachi, I always thought you might have pronounced your name kind'a close to 'Cherokee', meaning 'Keera-Kee'. Looks like I was wrong too, so would Ye kindly accept the apology from this old frontiersman? |

COOL! My dad's family is from Somerset!! The Gribbins have been down there for a loooooooonnnggg time! Although the farthest back I could trace them was 1886. They moved to what's now called Bradsfordville, KY around the 1920's and are still hanging out there to this day. My grandpa and grandma moved up here to the Cincinnati area during the depression because the farm was failing and there was industrial work available.
There are some family who have gone farther back than that and say that our families have been in the area since the frontiers. I'd love to see their research!!!!
In those two areas we got tied into the Helmes, Warrens and the Haynes families. Pretty sure there's more, our family is monstrously large.
Mom's side is from Russell Springs and she tied us into the Shambough's, Bolington's, Stohlman's and Reese's. |

if your Dad's family is from Somerset, chances are we're cousins. We've got Phelps, Tomlinson's, Goff's, Meece's, Mounce's, Ping's, an many other names. So more than likely, 'HEY COUS, HOW ARE YOU DOIN?' Mike |

You are invited, and your family would love it. Afterall, where else but at a reenactment or rendezvous can children be taught how to throw knives and tommahawks, make fire without matches, and shoot guns without a cartridge? And believe me, they and the parents love it!!!!! |

That's right folks, my hubby and I are moving to Kentucky this Spring! He is getting stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY. So hopefully, if all works out, I plan on attending the Grassy Run event and meeting our wonderful KYF!!! Can't wait! |

Well, I just found out that we will only be at the Grassy Run event for Friday and Saturday, April 25-26, 2008. On Sunday the 27th, we have another engagement, and as yet I've not heard back from the president of Grassy Run, so I'm not sure we will be doing our Simon & Betsy Kenton or not? But I promise ladies, if you come, we will perform just for you. That's a promise from Simon Kenton himself!!! http://www.grassyrun.org/Information.html. |

Fav part of LOTM? Hard to say, but perhaps the "Courier" scene, just a combination of the music and all. Another favorite, though, is the recruiting scene outside Cameron's cabin. |
