The kiss was soo romantic. They played that part very good, LoL I Wish I kissed Daniel Day-Lewis He Is So Fly, He got It going on. Now Him I could do wateva too. Ima get to meet him one day and then let eveyone know how the kiss went.

| Well Braveheart the kiss was an amazing scene but I think it would have been more intense to see that seen with Uncas and Alice! |

This was a pivotal scene in the film, superbly acted, beautifully filmed & just about as perfect as it gets. Every time I watch it, I can "feel" Cora surrendering herself to Hawkeye, emotionally as well as physically & I never tire of watching that scene and experiencing those feelings. It just doesn't get any better than this.  |

chasis_22,Diane B.- I do agree with you, i would also love to see uncus and alice also. That seen would of been so beautiful. In my words I would loved it if chingagook also found someone to loved. Just thinking about it would of been beautiful to see happy at the end of the movie. Dont you think.

No problem Braveheart. It's your face and hair. The way you look resembles the scene where Alice looks towards the camera before she jumps...her hair around her face. But yah, nice photo and Alice is a nice thing to be compared with. Me, depending on if I'm wearing sunglasses, am sometimes called "Clark Kent" from Superman and "Agent Wade", a joke from the Matrix. Then, if I'm wearing glasses, some have said I resemble Harry Potter. But...it's all good lol

| Hello again to all... I've been down with a nasty virus and away from the board for a few weeks. I already wrote how wonderful *I* think "The Kiss" is; unfortunately, I can't at the moment recall where it's posted. :-0 Anyway, I'm glad to see so many others liked it as well as I did. I think it is probably the most romantic, sexy scene I've ever seen on film! |

| Sorry Lurker... but it was a historical *and* romantic novel. If you read Cooper's version, the "would be romance" is between Cora and Uncas, and Alice and Duncan. I liked what you said about it being a big world with room for everyone though! :-) |

| It's been a good many years since I read the book, - but I don't remember any strong romance sections. Doesn't mean they weren't there I suppose, but it didn't get my attention. LH1445 kinda has my sympathies, - I'm not much of a romantic either. I totally agree, - it's a big world, and we're the better for it. ;) |

| Monadnock; I thought someone might raise the same point you did: and it has been a while since I read the book too! I guess it depends on what you mean by "strong"... Cooper was writing in an age where romance was treated very differently and *so* much less explicitly than it is today. I read the book again, after I saw the movie. Duncan is definitely smitten with Alice, and Uncas with Cora. Of course, none of us are going to find any scenes in the book that even come close to "The Kiss"! We'd have to leave that to some of today's modern Romance writers... ;-) |

| A thought about that does come to mind Redbird. Hollywood being just that, and also in the money making business needs as large an audience as it can get. A movie about battles during Colonial times, - might not attract all that many females. However, spice it up a tad, to more modern times, with some romance, - and bingo, a much larger audience. I don't think it did any harm at all, - but much more would have affected what everything was really all about. I'd say it worked quite well, - judging from the responses here. ;) |

Well, maybe not "all that many", but it sure would attract this one! OK. So I admit it. I'm a bit strange in that regard... although, maybe not that strange. Don't sell us females short, Guide! Many of us are more than just romantic fluff.
Of course, one of the things that has drawn me so strongly to this movie for about the past 10 or 11 years, is the romance between Nathaniel and Cora. But, it is only one of the things. I can honestly say that if the plotline of that movie were to be changed and both Cora and Alice eliminated, I would still watch it with great enjoyment. Yes, DD-L, Eric Schweig and Russell Means definitely have something to do with that, but I think that even with different, less attractive actors, I would still consider it a favorite.
And just about any Colonial battle gets my attention! |

I would have to agree with WW. There are several movies out there that have drawn me even though they have little or no "juicy" scenes: "Master and Commander", "The Crossing", "The Patriot", and the list goes on. Any romance is a nice bonus. But I will go to see ANY Colonial movie, knowing that I will learn from my fellow reenactors who do more research than I do what parts are exaggerated or completely wrong. I've come so far myself that I can detect some of the inaccuracies, but that is not why I see the movies. I love to immerse myself in the time period so that I can better understand what my own ancestors had to go through.
When I saw LOTM, the kiss was one of the more pleasant scenes, I admit. But I am also an admirer of the "suggested" romance, just as much. Do any of you DD-L fans remember the scene from "The Age of Innocence" where he is unbuttoning Michelle Pfeiffer's gloves? About made me fall out of my theater seat! |

You are right, LH1445 - the world would be mighty boring if we were all the same & yes, there is room for everyone in this big world of ours. After I read your initial post about "The Kiss" scene, I wrongly assumed that you were a troll & that you knew that such a post would "stir the blood" of many fans of LOTM - and of that scene, in particular! Now, I understand that by your own admission, your are "just not a romantic." I apologize for jumping to such a conclusion about you as I did.
Too bad about your not being a romantic, though...that thought makes me sad, somehow. I'm just a sentimental softie, I suppose!
Anyway, thanks for sharing your thoughts on "The Kiss" with the rest of us. |
