Howdy All-
I myself am new here. (and if I have taken someone elses Avatar...sorry). I've been feeling things out for a while and reading the posts so bare with me folks, if I mention anything that we've already discussed.
Anyhoo, I am a huge Uncas/Alice supporter. Since the movie came out ( I was a ripe 13 year old wipper snapper) I've had a fascination with the entire love at a glance relationship that Uncas and Alice had. <le sigh> So it brings my overblown imagination to wander and think that this could be grounds for a prequel of sorts to explain why Uncas latched onto Alice as much as he did. I know it doesn't tie into the actual LOTM book but in the recesses of one's mind I think there could be an awesome story to be told, basing itself from the movie. The movie didnt really go into detail plotwise about Nathaniel's and Uncas's childhood and such. Uncas could have had a previous love that he lost or something of the like.
Just thought I'd see what ya'lls thoughts were on this subject. Again, I apologize if this has already been discussed.

Hmmmm. I would have to say that this is a new topic to me! How refreshing! A prequel to the LOTM! I would go see it. I think it would be very interesting to see how the trio came to be...not to mention it might explain the look that Alexandria Cameron gave Uncas when she asked why he was with the guys! That's it! Time to tie up MM again and make another demand! I doubt any other film maker would be able to make it good enough to be tied in to the LOTM! |

YES chasis22, good point about the LOOK between Alexandra and Uncas. Really it's more on her part than his, I can't remember if he returns the gaze or not. But she definitely gives him a LOOK. Guess they were in love, too, huh? teehee Stephanie |

Glad to see that we are all on the same wavelength, cause I have always thought the very same thing when I see that part in the movie in the Cameron's Cabin.
AND there was that one part where Uncas is shooing the horses away and Alice tries to stop him and he grabs her and stares at her for a second. So what was he thinking? Perhaps she reminded him of someone that he love and lost. Perhaps Nathaniel, Chingachook, and Uncas were heading West to leave old memories behind.
Also there's always that question of why couldnt he just wait for Nathaniel and Chingachook to help him rescue Alice. Remember he put his hand on his father's shoulder and gave him a "I have to do this" look. Perhaps he didnt want to lose his love a second time. See how it leaves the past WIDE open?!?!?!?
I tell ya my imagination is a brewin' lol

Welcome to the site, Wanderlust! I'd be first in line if there was a prequel. I always thought that would have been interesting to see. Glad to see I'm not the only one out there thinking that!

It's been a while since I posted in regards to this subject - which has come up before - and I would like to take advantage of its reappearance to once again share my thoughts on the scene at Cameron's cabin.
When Chingachcook, Hawkeye and Uncas arrive at the cabin, Alexandra Cameron smiles at Chingachcook as she extends her hand to him and greets him by addressing him as "Uncle." My take on it is that Alexandra has been acquainted with the three of these fellows long enough to consider them "family" and her interest in Uncas is more that of a caring "big sister" as opposed to being involved with him romantically at any time.
Of course, since Uncas is involved in this discussion, I'm sure all of the "Uncan-ites" out there will strongly disagree with this post! Their response will probably be something like, "Of COURSE there was something more between Alexandra Cameron & Uncas - how could any woman NOT be in love with him?!" Personally, I don't happen to think so but again, this is just my take on the subject. |

Diane, My comment about Alexandra and Uncas being in love was a bit tongue-in-cheek,given all the talk on other parts of the message board about the looks between Uncas and Alice equating to a romance. You bring up something I've never noticed! I have not heard Alexandra greet Ching. as "Uncle." That is so cool! Well, I guess I'll have to go watch the movie again (gosh darn.) Thanks for pointing that out!! Stephanie |

Diane expressed my thoughts as well. I have never believed there was anything romantic there. It's more like a big sister teasing her brother. His reaction to her death is that of a caring friend.
And those who know me, know I am definitely an Uncas-ite!

I concur on this, I never really thought that Alexandra and Uncas were ever an item. But I do think that she was being inquisitive when he came to visit, and that she was merely a family friend whom he cared deeply for. I dare say Uncas looked heartbroken when he saw that she and the children had been killed.
My post was merely to wonder what happened before the movie plot began. But then again since there is really no detail on that in the movie, I guess anything goes right? |
