There a many, many reasons I love LOTM, but the main reason I saw it 15 times in theatres was the love scene! It was incredibly well choreographed, but looked natural, and the expressions on Madeleine Stowe's face were simply sublime. This scene is more deeply stirring to my blood than any other love scene could possibly be! Definitely my favourite love scene of all time. If I could watch only one scene in LOTM, this would be it! How about you guys?

I think I would agree with you on the love scene, I have watched it over and over again. It was beautifully acted and incredibly romantic which was enhanced by the music. The other part of LOTM I watch over and over is the finale, from the part when Hayward sacrifices himself for Cora right up to the end credits. Perfect.

Again,I would have to say the courier scene where Major Duncan Haywood leads the grenadiers of the 35th outside Ft.William Henry to volley-fire upon advancing indians and Canadian militia.Call me old fashioned,but this scene just does it for me(DVD version only).

This is a hard one...there are too many to pick out one specific favorite. However, I do remember when I saw this movie for the first time the exact moment that Hawkeye became my hero. It was as he was guiding Cora's canoe across the lake to the fort and you saw the grimace on his face and you knew he was determined to get these girls to their father. Yep...that was the scene that did it for me.

Wow! I have many favorite scene's in this movie! One of them is when they are hiding in the burial site the first night and Hawkeye is telling Cora about himself ... a little insight to a dark, handsome stranger!

My favorite scene? Hmmm...well, that would have to be the opening vistas - and then every scene that follows until the final credits roll up the screen!  Seriously, I love the whole movie! However, if hard pressed to choose, I guess I could narrow it down a bit...
Like Brenda, I love the scene at the burial ground. I also love the scene between Hawkeye and Cora in the surgery at the fort where she asks, "What are you looking at, sir?" and Hawkeye replies, "I'm looking at you, Miss." Of course, the love scene where Hawkeye and Cora share their first kiss is a favorite: I get goosebumps just thinking about that one!  And "Under the Falls" is a great scene, as well. What woman wouldn't go weak in the knees to have a man professing his love and undying devotion to her so strongly? "I will find you! No matter how long it takes, no matter how far, I will find you!"

Diane, your mention of the waterfall scene reminded me of another moment I really liked. It's when Cora asks Hawkeye if he's seen her father, and he says "From a distance" and just takes her gently into his arms. He's so sensitive and sympathic, and the scene really shows how Hawkeye and Cora interact without a lot of words being said.

Yes, that's another great scene. As you watch Hawkeye & Cora embrace, you will see that he puts his mouth to her ear & while you cannot hear what Hawkeye says to her, Cora's reaction to his words says it all, along with her asking Hawkeye to "Say nothing to Alice."

I've been thinking some more on this one and I've come to the conclusion that I like the scenes with a little "Hawkeye Attitude". Like:
"You do what you want with your own scalp and not be tellin' us what to do with ours." and "I don't call myself subject to much at all."
"'case your aim's any better 'an your judgement."
"Well, we kinda face to the north and real sudden like turn left."
"I ain't your scout and I sure ain't no damn militia."
And of course...
"Someday I think you and I are going to have a serious disagreement."
I'm sure there are others...but a man with a little attitude goes a long way with me.

Yes, Theresa, those are some of my favorite lines from Hawkeye, as well! Several of them were entirely or partially cut from the DVD version of LOTM and I missed them terribly! For instance, quote:
"I ain't your scout and I sure ain't no damn militia."
Every time I watch that scene in the DVD version, I find myself waiting for Hawkeye's next line: "Clear it up any?"

Well, I must confess that there are many scenes that I like a lot; but I think that the best is Promotory
(from the Huron Village Scene to the end of the movie). In my opinion "The kiss" is pretty graphic, (and
really romantic, don't you think so, guys? I like "the ambush",too; and, in the end, The Courier.

And lets not forget all the wonderful scenes with Uncas, especially onthe cliff when he battled with Magua. REmember the look he gave Alice after Magua slashed him with the dagger? He seemed so surprised that he had gotten hurt {sob!}.

| My favourite scene has to be the one from the Huron encampment and Heyward's sacrifice, all the way to the credits... The battle between Uncas and Magua is breathtaking, especially with the powerful music in the background. It hurts to see the pain in Alice's eyes after she has seen the man she loves/her rescuer slashed and wounded, then ultimately killed. |

My favorite is definitely the love scene. From the moment Hawkeye claims Cora and they walk off together until the final moment of rapture, it is breathtaking.
I also enjoyed the scene where Hawkeye and everyone flees in the canoes after the massacre. I really came to appreciate the beauty of these canoes and thought it was a real tribute to Native America. |

In a movie filled with great action scenes, love scenes, scene scenes ... it really is difficult to isolate just one as the very best.
I mean, from the very beginning ... the beating of the drum in darkness ... the film grabs you. Through one spectacular scene after another, it never really lets you go. The Last of the Mohicans, as a piece of art, is as beautiful a visual as you are likely to find.
But, here's my criteria for singling out the very best of the very best ... Someone - anyone - is walking through a room where LOTM is being watched on a TV screen. What scene is most likely to make this anonymous person stop in their tracks and get sucked in, unable to break the spell & move on?
From the moment Duncan cries out, "My compliments, Sir! Take her & get out!" to the pounding of a lifeless Magua's head upon the rocks about 10 minutes later, we witness perhaps the best bit of film-making ... ever! The magnificent scenery, combined with equally magnificent musical score ... WOW! No words spoken, yet a dramatic & climactic tale is eloquently expressed! There are great close-up shots of beautiful people, action sequences, panoramic vistas of pristine landscape ... It's all there. No one can walk away from it. It is almost hypnotic in its spell. Spellbinding!
The very best of the very best ...
And, you know what? The two main stars of the film, Daniel Day-Lewis & Madeleine Stowe, play only minor roles in the sequence ... this is a film-making coup! Bravo Michael Mann, Dante Spinotti, et al! |

TLOM is a great Movie ! I saw it 8 time ( 6 of Italian version of movie ) :-) The soundtrack is WONDERFULLLLL ! I love it ! (I've the 2 CD version ) Uhmmmm....my favourite scene....it's hard ...

| ok I have two scenes that get me everytime. the first being under the falls when Uncas grabs Alice and holds her as he runs his hand through her hair(drool everythime!)...the second is the burial ground when Uncas covers Alice's mouth and it almost looks like he is using his body to cover hers....and I lied...a third one is when Chingachgook is running after up the cliff at the end and is crying(looks like crying to me) and Hawkeye calling out Uncas' name. Hmmm can you tell I am in love with Eric Schweig?! LOL |

I think that a lot of it was Mann's desire to re-create a more prototypical Hawkeye - rather than a "pop" star. On The Expanded Edition Page there's some input from Mann, and - if memory serves correctly - a link to another interview. In one, or both, he gives his reasons for some of it. Not saying I buy it all, but ... |

I've read those interviews but I'm not satisfied with this answers. I mean some of my favourite moments were:
- "serious disagreement" line
- "breed apart and make no sense" line
- "sure as hell ain't your scort" line
I had heaps of favourite moments admittedly but it's quite shocking to see those bits removed. Also, I didn't see / hear anything wrong with the Clannad song at all! I thought it was quite haunting although it still works without the Clannad song too.
At least they didn't cut "The Kiss". *swoon* :D |

Of course, my favorite scene is Magua, standing on the cliff, beckoning Alice not to jump. My second, thrids, fourth etc. fav scenes are anyones with Magua in them.
To be fair, since I also run Russell's fan club, any scenes with Russell in them are perfect too. Oh heck, I just love the whole thing!

My favorite of all time is, of course, the love scene. From the moment they see each other across that firelit expanse, then he takes her hand and leads her away...the kissing scene on the ramparts is BY FAR the most sensual thing I've ever seen on film. My favorite part is when they part from the first kiss and she looks down at him like "Oh my God you are just the finest thing in the history of the world where did you come from..." and then they continue...
BUT there are other scenes too...
2. The scene at the burial ground where Hawkeye talks to her about the stars and the folktales about the stars and his family history.
3. Scene behind the waterfall, "I will find you, etc." you all know the rest.
4. The sequence where Uncas and Nathaniel are firing to protect the courier...
5. And Magua's beckoning toward Alice on the rocks. His face said more than any words could have spoken. I, personally, would have gone with him, but then I'm not an invalid schoolgirl
This movie is SO full of scenes though it's almost impossible to describe. I've seen it at least 45 times now and I've never grown tired of it.
Now if I just had somebody on the ramparts waiting for me...

| my fav scene is in the beginning when they are hunting the deer. the music, and the feel of the scene always gets me. i also like the scene where magua takes munros heart, with the three native bodyguards, whatever. |

| My favorite scene has to be when Chingachgook avenges Uncas' death. There's this incredible buildup of emotional tension, then satisfaction in hearing and almost feeling him bury his club in Magua's torso. It's as if he knows that he'll never be able to replace his son and he's just done the only thing that can give him any satisfaction. A hollow victory, but powerful nonetheless. |
