I never heard how the auction for the LOTM collection went. I understand that there was no acceptable bid for the entire collection. Was it sold piecemeal? Is there anything left?

I notified all who had bidded on the display items, via E-mail, of its fate, but, for the record:

Briefly, it ended in disaster. Things were going well, I thought, and I constantly kept the seller informed of progress. He always answered in the affirmative. Then, a fellow who had the high bid on Killdeer went bonkers because I notified everyone, with 3 days left, of all the current high bids - to allow for last minute maneuvering. He went ballistic - and, at the very last minute, withdrew his still high bid! There were still a large amount of good bids out there, with virtually every item "claimed." But, after closing, the seller decided against doing it at all. One of his main reasons? Some folks had "overbid" and would be disappointed!!!!! Go figure!

This all took place immediately prior to, and during, the Gathering, so, to a point, I'm probably responsible ... I had little [read: NO] time to adequately devote to settling this issue.

I felt betrayed and used by that bidder, but especially by the seller. [Though, I must say, most who bidded were absolutely wonderful, supportive & understanding!] A hard lesson learned ... again ... I ask myself, "Why do I get involved in these things, over & over?"

Any answers?

PS - Perhaps a poll is in order? Answers: Because Rich is a - 1 - jerk 2 - idiot 3 - moron 4 - hardheaded 5 - knucklehead ... well, you get the idea!

I am afraid that you are one of those people who assume the best about everyone, and unfortunately it "just ain't so".

Never seen an auction where everyone wasn't kept informed of the bidding. Was it a "silent auction"? I never understood those, anyway. And "disappointed"? Those things were made by some of the best artisans around today. It's easy to compare prices. If they bid, they knew what they were getting.

"DITTO" to Marc's comment Rich! You know as well as anyone you can't please everyone all the time. THere will always be strangeoids that will have a different take on how things should be handled. You were a good egg for trying to offer some VERY COOL stuff to folks that might be interested and help out the owner of the collection at the same time. You were exactly right to make high bids known, maybe even should have kept a running tally all along. Silent in "silent auction" simply means not spoken, everybody usually knows all the bids. It was by far the fair thing to do and a nice thing to do to have taken it on in the first place!!!

You are my snoogie-woogie, Ricardo, so I will not allow you
to take the blame for any of this! The buyer who pulled out
was a jerk -- obviously just wanted the rifle handed to him
with no effort on his part. And the sller was a bigger jerk.
I know technically a seller has a right to cancel his auction
if he doesn't like the bids he's getting, but in a normal world
that would be because the bids are too LOW. I guess on the
Planet Magoomba where he resides HIGH bids are a bad thing.
Say the word and I'll slip the leashes off my Hungry Huron
Boys and let them have at the pair of them!!

Kissys!
