My family, and my best friend Jilli are planning on attending this years Mohican Gathering! Veeeeryy excited. I do have a question though, I was looking throughout this site and I couldnt for the life of me find how much it costs to go to the Gathering. Does anybody know the amount of money it costs? Thanks for listening to all of my questions about the Gathering..lol.

Hi UL13, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we won't have an official Gathering next year. Our next Gathering will be in 2006. I know, that is a long way off, isn't it? Some of the Gatherers will probably try to get together next year for an unofficial Gathering if that helps any. As for how much it costs, well, that depends on what we do. There are some free things to do while other things cost money. Look on the bright side, it gives you plenty of time to start saving up for the Gathering. I would love to meet you, your family, and Jilli. Where are y'all from UL???

on that theme, with the bi-yearly schedule of gatherings, who'd be interested in a northern gathering, on an 'off' year touring the real locations where the movie is set... some places have changed, some never existed, but a week of activities can be done... timing would be close to the last week of june, because its still 'off' season there, and to catch the f&i reenactment at ticonderoga, either the first or last weekend of the gathering, the balance can be trips to william henry, a charter boat trip through the narrows {i know one turns near redrock} a 'death march' up black mountain, trips to crown point, the real 'under the falls' location, white water rafting can be done in the area, there's an amusement park, resteraunts, hotels in the area... don't know the 'touristy' sites in the area too well, though... is it worth persuing? |

A weekend that included the Fort Ti reenactment? Are you kidding? I, for one, would love it. For a first time venture, it might not be bad idea to try a 3-4 day event, a sort of bare bones locations and the reenactment, just to see what interests folks (AND to help you keep your sanity!). We hinted at our buddy Seamus one year about just this sort of thing!

Sounds good to me too. If you can come up with an itenerary and the cost of the events, then maybe we can get some folks interested in it. I know that I will do my best to come, if my slavedriver of a husband will let me go for a few days.

Hey, even if there isn't an OFFICIAL mohican gathering, I'd love to still have an unofficial one doing the things you all mentioned. Jilli and I would love it just the same! lol. And plus, we'll be lookin' forward to 2006!! :) Kaylynn44, to answer ur question, my family and I are from the very boring town of Girard located in Pennsylvania. A very little town, but very nice people. Not much to do or look at, which is why I am so in love with the scenery in LOTM!! lol. However, my room is FILLED with LOTM pictures, posters, etc..and plus my Uncas shrine on one of my walls, so when I enter my room, I feel like I'm right there..as cheesy as it sounds, it the truth! lol. Thanks for all of your help! You're all so awesome! Talk to ya later..

UL13, I have a friend in Lititz, Pa. Are you anywhere near there? I have a feeling that we will have some kind of unofficial gathering next year. We will just have to wait and see where it will be.

for the '05 season, a canoe/batteau/whaleboat/whatever floats 1 week trip ending at ticonderoga, for the annual f&i event trip is being planned, see how it goes, havent heard anything concrete yet... another possible day trip is fort #4 in charlstown nh, this is set earlier then wm henry, but in a nicer location {wm henry is in lake george village, _real_ touristy now}... crown point & ft st frederic have a museum, across the bridge is chimney point, which also has a museum including abenaki stuff... all admission fees reletivly cheap, big expense is travel, food and motels... although theres places to camp in the area as well... rogers rock is popular... a week of a-la-cart could be filled, the big draw would be the ticonderoga f&i event...

Hi, I was told by Bob Bearor at Fort Necessity that the 250th anniversary of the Battle of Lake George is on for Sept. '05.Both the battle of The Bloody Morning Scout and the Battle of Lake George will be held on the original ground. I'll definitely try to make this event.

This is the best place for anyone interested in LOTM to visit..(Key West excepted). More Quality F&I sites than anywhere in the world. The Cooper's Cave visitors bridge is almost installed. I will be calling Bob Bearor tonight to alert him to a possible fan club being formed. Remember that the Northway (I-87) is within a few miles of all sites..A virtually traffic-free 4 lane hwy.... 45 Min. from Albany Airport you can see the most beautiful lake in North America. Lodging, restaurants and amusements for those who require such things. AND New Yorkers who are Mid-Western in speach & attitude. Consider that. Will you consider that? |

I really think that we will have some kind of non official thingy. I don't know if it will be in New York or North Carolina, but I am going to try my best to be there!!!
..I sit here and try to put faces to all the people here and its IMPOSSIBLE.
Alot of us have pictures in our profiles. I know that it is very hard to picture someone just by their posts. It's alot better when you can actually meet the people that you talk to. I met alot of wonderful people this year. I am so glad that I was able to go to the Gathering!!!
Kaylynn, where do you live? I'm sure its more exciting than the uneventful town of Girard..lol. :)
I live in a very small town, but I love small town life. I live in New Ellenton, S.C. It is about 60 miles from Columbia, S.C. and it's about 30 miles from Augusta Ga. That probably doesn't help you out a whole lot. I have been to a few big cities, and I was never so glad to get back home, although I did kind of like Las Vegas, but I wouldn't want to live there!!!

I would love it if a group of us would get together next summer to visit the historial sites - Fort Ticonderoga, Fort William Henry, Crown Point, Battlefield Park, Fort George, Rogers Island, etc... There's so much to do in Lake George. The travel channel did a show on it. They showcased the museum, which I've been to. Nice selection of books there. Did you know they say Robert Rogers haunts it? They say it was close to where he used to camp. I've never visited Cooper's Cave. I look forward to when it's open again. I'd also like to hike up to Rogers rock. Mike Plant has some good suggestions. This summer I took a boat cruise on the Minnie-Ha-Ha paddlewheeler. It was fun. They now fire off a cannon during the cruise. A homeowner on shore fires one back too. On the night cruise the crew dress in the old style clothes and stage a mock battle. I think this would be fun to do. They tell you some of the history of the lake and stories about the islands. It is the nice way to see the lake. Great views. The Grand Encampment at Fort Ticonderoga is something to see, and would make an excellent conclusion to the week. Donna |

the museum at rogers island is small, would be a quarter day, but not bad.. also in the area is the champlain maritime museum... the philidelphia-2 is there... a navy museum is in whitehall, but i've never been to it... there would be no trouble filling up a week... i've never planned anything like this, but an informal gathering wouldn't have to be too planned {if this is tuesday, this must be belgium}...
the planning would look somthing like:
get number of people interested
pick timing for unmovable days {f&i ti has by far the most going for it, alternates are crown point f&i, fort #4 f&i, ticonderoga rev war, ft.edwards rev war, hubbardton rev war, rabble in arms, bennington rev war, ethen alley days...
pick some kind of home base, where most people would be staying - lake george village has motels, one right next to wm henry, maybe a large bed & breakfast?
group full day stuff, half day stuff and quarter day stuff by area, get interest, maybe group pricing... travel between sites would be generaly 60 miles or less
see what happens from there... any scouting missions are out until after the lake george tactical, have the whole {uggh!} winter to lay this one out... more to come... |

Greetings all,
I just wanted to let everyone know that I have moved to northern Virginia last week from Germany. There has alot of reorganization in the US Army in Europe, so my job was cut. I found another position with my same company. More than likely, I will be moving to another position with an outside company that will pay me alot more in salary. Of course, being in the middle between north and south, I would be interested in taking part in informal gathering this year.
With Honor,
Patrick |

Is Albany the closest airport to where we would be going? I like to see ahead of time about how much the expenses will be, so that I can plan and save for this. Thanks!

Albany is the closest airport.. 40 Min. north by car...Most Lake George region F&I sites are within minutes of the Northway I-87.. Ft. Ti is 20 min. from the Northway . Crown Point and the Vermont bridge is another 20 min. It's all really easy. Remember that these sites are the heart of the Last French war. It was won or lost...here. |

Just over an hour west of Albany is beautiful, historic, Cooperstown and Lake Otsego, home of James Fenimore Cooper. Two of his novels took place here, "The Deerslayer" and "The Pioneers." Overlooking the lake is the Fenimore Art Museum on land once owned by JFC, which has several Cooper artifacts, some Thomas Cole paintings of scenes from LOTM, a great Indian gallery, several fantastic early 19th century American paintings, as well as some folk art and a couple rotating galleries.
Although not really related to the F&I War or Cooper, but just across the road from the Fenimore Art Museum is the Farmers Museum. A great living history museum depicting small town life in 1840s upstate NY. |
