I was wondering who is going to attend the 'Siege of Fort Niagara' in about two weeks? We will be sending a small detachment up (Less than 10), since 40% of my company will be attending a family wedding the same weekend.

| Schroth's NY Company of Rangers will be at Niagara and I hope to meet more of our lads from the western frontier. Sergeant Brown made it sound like more of a garrison situation. |

Compagnie Leboeuf will be there, though myself, I'll just be showing up for Sat., if I make it at all, because of the Quebec event. I'll be leaving the following Tuesday, at 4:00 am for the big Rev War event in Quebec City.

A good weekend was had by all. Our company had the honor to fight alongside of our Michigan brethern of L/Col. Gordon Graham's Company. Between our units we had over fifteen men of the 42nd RHR as part of the First Divison.
The First Divison comprised the regulars of the British Army, with companies of the 15th, 40th, 42nd and 60th Foote being well represented. Our own Captain Thomas Graham given charge of the 'Highland Brigade' which included the 42nd RHR and the First Divison Color Guard. I was able to once again enjoy working with Sergeant Major comemings (Larry Blacket) of the Lieutenant Colonel's Coy. They are all a great bunch of lads and lasses!!!!!!
The battles were absolutely fantastic!!!!! The folks at Fort Niagara are a good bunch, they are always happy to see you. Saturday's battle involved the First Divison storming the ravelin on the southeast side of the fort, it was a sight to behold. The first man over the crest was Private Sam of the 77th Regiment, who was a guest of the 42nd for the weekend. Right behind him was Ensign MacMillan and myself, along with a sergeant form the 60th RAR. The rest of the lads spilled over the top and reformed in under a minute.
Sundays battle called for a volunteer breeching party, and of course Captain Graham's Coy. of the 42nd RHR stepped forward. Ensign MacMillan was to lead the 'forlorn hope', and his party of volunteer pioneers consisted Privates Henderson and McKendrick, and myself. With Captain Patarcity and his Rangers sweeping the trenches of French Regulars, our small intrepid band made a run for the wall. Once there, Ensign MacMillan, Private Henderson and McKendrick provided cover while I used the mattock to knock a 'hole' in the inner defenses. The French promptly beat a parlay before the storming party, made up of the 2nd Divison's force of Provincial Soldiers, could launch it's assault. As I said before, it was fun!!!!!

| The weather was great, not too hot. The fort is a wonderful location for a battle. The pipers did a great job and add so much to the experience. I gotta get in better shape so I have the strength to visit in between battles. |

OFN was great! The best event I've been to in a long time. Whether a re-enactor or not, I would strongly urge anyone travelling through that area to take a few hours to visit.
Tacticals were good. I enjoyed Sunday's "Highland Style B&E" on the fort wall. I think I shall not forget however, looking back to see Sgt. Munro whapping Pvt McKendrick in the arse with his breaching shovel!  |

I have read that this technique was used on more than one occasion by General Washington to motivate his soldiers during the heat of battle, except that he used the flat of his sword from horseback!
Apparently it worked well.
