In another thread, Hawkeye Joe recommended a silk breechclout belt. I don't know, I'm having little luck finding one - silk, wool, or leather. Who makes or supplies these things?

And, what kind do you use - or have seen used?

No wool.. it rolls and chafes...the fibers will dig into your skin...I use the same leather belt that I use to hold up my leggins, with two loops of latigo leather to tie the leggins on with inserted into punched holes, this keeps the leg tie knots from digging in after a few days of wearing it.. I like the raw silk clout belt that I mentioned because it has been recommended to me by several but I have never gotten around to making myself one. If you make one or have it made be sure to specify "Raw Silk".

Dear Ricardo -- I would suggest you try the Hawkeye's Secret
store which is near the giftshop of the Mohicanland Clinic for
the Terminally Weird. We have all sorts of little lacy nothings
that would be just the ticket for you! And in case I forgot to
mention it, Gnome Butter is excellent for Clout Crud -- all too
common these hot summer days!

Kissies!

Ok, here is what this old longhunter does....I have a gray wool breechclout...been wearing the same one for 15 years, never been chafed, it works fine...it's just a piece of gray wool which I ripped from one of my old blankets....if you want the measurements I can send them (stop the jokes!!). I hold it up with a leather thong (don't get mixed up with modern talk, or none of this will make sense!!).....that is beaded at the end. I wear a seperate belt overtop of this which holds up the straps on the leggins. I found out that a belt holding both clout and leggins would slip down, so I use the seperate piece of leather (thong!!) to hold up the clout. I know quite a few people (Natives whom I was just with at Bushy Run) that wear wool clouts, some with stripes on, some plain colors like mine, but fancier colors like red and many put trade silver at the bottom, or other decorations. I go for the plain, gray look.....I wear it longer in the back than in the front, so it peeks out a bit below my long shirt in the back (fashionable!!??).....'nuff said!! Pax Aye! Many Flags

Sorry for the misunderstanding.. I didn't mean no wool clouts.. I have two and a linsey-woolsey and two linen. I meant the clout belt shouldn't be wool.. the belt can dig in and chafe like the dickens.

Well, I'm getting the definite impression that no one actually sells these things. Is that true? Do I just grab a spare hunk of leather, or silk, or wool and just tie 'er up? Or, if none available, just use a regular belt, since no one sees it anyway?

I'm lost on this one ...
