OK...this book has absolutely nothing...I repeat nothing...to do with Mohicans, Mohicanland, F & I War, history BUT...and I do mean BUT(T) it's one for the ages.
The Sweet Potato Queens' Book of Love is hilarious and most women will get a hoot outta this one. It's by Jill Conner Browne from Jackson, Mississippi and centers around good ol' Southern Belles and a St. Patrick's Day Parade. I laughed so hard when I read this. So, if you are in need of some relief from today's troubles, check this one out. Warning....some rough language and subject matter.

Hey T, A girl after me own heart! I've read this one and the sequel (can't think of the name just now). These are hilarious books. Remember...The Promise? How to get a man to do anything for you? The only thing left to do if...like on another planet...the "promise" doesn't work, show up naked and bring beer!
This book has been a bit of a phenomenon. The Sweet Potato Queens have a website, including making available to the public Fat Mama's Margarita Mix (Cecelia HAS some! - can't you just picture her in a green sequin minidress and hot pink majorette boots with tassels and elbow high gloves and BIG hair?), and chapters and chapters of other Sweet Potato Queens (and their offspring - tater tots) around the country that have passed the test from Wannabee Queens.
The second book included recipes for the deepest down southest Sweet Potato dishes one could imagine. In fact, Get Back Granny's Sweet Potato Cobbler was gonna be a featured dish at the Gathering Pig-Pickin'!
A great read to get one out of the doldrums! Very difficult to read on a plane though (as I did the first book), everyone will wanna know why you're howling with laughter!

Bwwaaahaaa! Yes, I do remember "the promise". Love this book! The sequel is "The Sweet Potato Queens' Big Ass Cookbook and Financial Planner". Haven't read it, though.
P.S. Should we all change our name to "Tammy"? |

Yesss, Honey-chile! You'll get a rip-snortin' kick outta these books. The good thing about Browne is she is just as funny in subsequent books as the first. I neglected to add above that the Fat Mama's Margarita mix is a necessary ingredient for Knock you Naked Margaritas!

You won't be sorry, Huggy. Just remember that these Sweet Potato Queens are so stereo-typical of everything you've ever heard about big-haired gals from the Sou-uth! |

Well, now I'm hooked! I've seen the books in the bookstore but have always opted to go with something else. Now I know that these are must reads after seeing what Thresa and Gadget Girl say about them. They'll be coming home with me from my next book store adventure!

As a born and bred Southerner, I too am a devotee of the Sweet Potato Queens...now if only I could find myself in the woods with Hawkeye and a canteen full of Knock You Naked Margaritas...
this is definitely a classic book for the ages. Christina |

I checked my local library's online catalog...all three are available, so I'm gonna place holds now !

Hey GG! I'm fine, I just don't seem to find my way to the computer too often right now. I have to say that I was sure thinking about you the other day as I was making your spaghetti salad. It's one of my husband's favorites and he calls it my Mohican salad! I've enjoyed everyone's comments about the Sweet Potato Queens and can't wait to get the books. OK, Jayne. I guess since Mom always taught us to share, I'll pass them along to you!

I just wanted to say thanks for this recommendation.
When I travel, I try to take some reading that has some sort of connection to where I am going and on my latest trip to Ga, I took the Sweet Potato Queens Book of Love with me, as my southern-style reading influence.
OMG! I am still laughing! As soon as I opened the book and saw a chapter entitled 'Men Who May Need Killing' I knew I was going to enjoy reading it! Am now a devotee of Funeral Food and the Magic Words (not for sharing on a family website!) and have added God Save the Sweet Potato Queens to my collection. Will forever have the image of that sweet lil church going lady exacting revenge on her late night intruder, burned in my head!
Thanks again

You're quite welcome, Adele. I think plans are being laid to attend the annual Sweet Potato Queen parade this coming spring. My sister went last year and she says it's a "MUST". Think I might go and change my name to "Tammy". I need to recheck this book just to brush up. |

THAT'S RIGHT! Tammy Theresa, Tammy Cecelia, Tammy Diana, and maybe Tammy Christina are all set to head to Jackson, Mississippi for the St. Patrick's Day parade next March. Any and all Sweet Potato Queen devotees welcome to join the "ROAD TRIP". We'll have plenty of Chez-its and bottled water for the trip!

Well darnit! I went to the library and Sweet Potato Queen's Book of Love was out! But, I was able to get God Save the Sweet Potato Queens!! I flipped it open randomly while waiting to check out and glanced at merely ONE chapter title...Sex, Love and the Talking Vagina. Betty is gonna LOVE this book if that's any indication!!!
*now, can I get it all read tonight before she gets home?*

OMG!!!!!! BETTY IS GONNA LOVE THIS BOOK!
I've only just started it, and have had my first guffaw!
Thanks for the recommendation guys!
It's in the very beginning when she is talking about the woman in the back brace who uses it to advantage such as getting to the head of the line in the bookstore - and has a discussion about the book and a recommendation to the sales girl (empasis on girl, REAL young).
