Hi Everyone ...

There are some problems some users of this board are experiencing - over & over - I will try to fix them for you here:

The "I Can't Log In/Out" Problem: This can also apply to various access problems, where the layout is messed up, board is slow, etc. In those cases, most often it's a network problem - somewhere, between your home/office & our web site's server [in Ohio] there is congestion, heavy traffic, a down line - something. Time usually fixes that. Alternately, you might simply need to close and then re-open your browser and/or reboot your system. Rebooting often works wonders for a variety of computer problems.

Then ... are you using Internet Explorer 5 or higher? Most "layout" problems are due to the Netscape browser, particularly versions earlier than 6.

Back to the "log in/log out" trouble ... As part of good Internet-user maintenance, you should regularly clear your browser's disk cache and delete your cookies. This will prevent and/or resolve that problem. With Internet Explorer, your path to do that will be something like: Tools ---> Internet Options ---> Delete Cookies, etc. Netscape will differ but be somewhat similar. Also, be sure to have your browser set to automatically refresh [rather than read cached copies on your hard drive] on each visit to a page. This is a must on interactive web pages.

The "I Can't Set My Birthdate" Problem: Admittedly, this is tricky! The "datepicker" thing-a-ma-jig is not very "user friendly! Follow this procedure:

  • Enter your profile
  • Click on the datepicker - a pop up window should open
  • Select the month AND year [of your birthdate] - press "Go"
  • Be sure the correct month & year now appear, and then click on the date
  • Press "Submit" on your Profile page [near the bottom]

Ok ... you did all that & your birthday still won't appear? Two things determine that [assuming you did all the above correctly!]:

  • Your birthday must be within 30 days - past or future from today's date. Give it time!
  • You must have posted here on the Mohican Board within the past 30 days

If you did all the above & meet those two criteria, your birthday should show.

The "I Can't Vote" Problem:

You're sure you didn't already vote in that particular poll, right? OK - it was that "peeking" at the results first prevented you from voting. I wasn't too fond of that feature - it's not like we have some top secret subject matter here - and have finally persuaded the poll maker to allow a turn on/off switch for that feature. Done! I have it set - I think - to allow you to peek and vote. So. hopefully, that's a gone issue!

Whew ...

I sent out a Gathering Group Mailing yesterday ... I never got my copy, though I know some arrived at their destinations ... In case your's never got to you, I'm reprinting it here rather than re-sending it. Here you go:

Hi everyone ...

Running very behind this year ... sorry ... February 1 sign-up date still stands, at the moment! Here are various itinerary scenarios to help you decide!

Day One: Chimney Rock Park ... that's a definite. We'll meet at the pavilion, have breakfast, pass out welcome packets, T-Shirts, etc., then hike the trails.

Possibilities for the second half of the day include:

A- Nothing ... otherwise translated to "down time"! [or you can spend more time at the park]
B- A mini-Biltmore tour, w/buffet luncheon
C- A jaunt up to Elk Hunt territory
D- A bit of Linville Gorge

Day Two: Cherokee! Museum, 1750's Village, "Unto These Hills," Native fare & crafts

Day Three: Numerous possibilities, depending on happenstance:

A- Linville Gorge
B- Nolichucky River
C- Dupont State Forest

Day Four: Mohican Games & Competitions, colonial fare PIG-
