... about the The LOTM DISSERTATION ... the trail from Cooper to Mohican Press piece that comprised most of last week's Weekly Update. Not much more to talk about this week, and not much time in which to discuss it! As many of you know, there are some personal issues we're dealing with here at home, compounded, right now by a mild flu bug or some such thing.

Anyway, I did get to add a few things here, one of which is in its infancy, and that'd be the Posting Guidelines. Basically, just a "tool" to help the newbie get unglued! Also, reinstated - by the release of the new versions - a more detailed FAQ section that I can easily edit and/or add to and the Forum Announcements that you'll see scattered about the forums as you browse.

One thing ... the word "STICKY." You'll see it wherever there is a "sticky" topic, or a "sticky" poll - that is, one we've set to "stick" to the top of its forum, irregardless of recent posts. We want to change the word "STICKY" to something else ... something that more or less means the same, but has a more Mohicans sound to it. Any ideas? Post 'em here!

A word to Scott: I hope you've found your tree by now! Didn't mean to upset you ...

2003 Great Mohican Gathering: Will be sending off an E-mail to all involved soon, but I thought I'd post the thought here now, as a head's up! Time's a creeping up ... fast! I know, it's only mid-December, Christmas hasn't even come along yet. So, yeah, it seems a long way off, but ... IT'S NOT! Not really. February 1st is, what, 45 or so days away, and there is lots to be done in the way of preparation before then. See: The 2003 Great Mohican Gathering page for what's in place so far, and you'll see that there's really very little that's solidly nailed down. We'll be opening back up for business on the first of February, and we need to get a full program with details in place by then ... so that folks can send in their money, 'cause without that, we can't make our deposits, and then ... well, we won't go there. Needless to say, folks deserve to know the whole shebang before we can be taking their money. So, those of us involved in the planning, in any way, please do your part ... and soon! Right now, I guess we have CRP in place, and the theater, and that's about it - I mean booked & price "set." Other than that ... well, Let's Roll!

I for one, like "Stay as they lay," which daire posted just above!
However, although I (JUST) re-watched LOTM for about the 23rd time, I'll have to watch it again, just to search! LOL

Hm-m-m-m-m lets see, oh the pressure of a word.........

Back later folk.

With regard to replacing the word "sticky"...

Words, words, words...

How about "tethered"... as in the tether placed around the necks of Cora and Alice by Magua and the Gang? You know... tethered to the top of the topic... get it...? Just a thought.

You could do
"First Of The Mohicans"....
"Not The Last Of The Mohicans"?......
Actually, I liked "Crown Law".

Oh yes! Of course! You get to see your idea here on the Mohican Board every visit!!! And, in addition, an invite to the next Mohican Gathering!!

Alas ... no ... not really ... no prize.

So far, I kind of like "Crown Law" the best ... but, please, don't stop now. Keep the thoughts coming!

Regarding the Dissertation ... it really is exciting. Not just because so much of it is about us - in a favorable light - but also because the entire work is a great tribute to The Last of the Mohicans and ought to be a source book for many years. Wait till you read it! It's awfully neat being woven into the tapestry of Americana is such a fashion!

Thanks for the link, Rich. It sounds wonderful. You will be selling the book on the site, right? Or at least through Amazon?

Not Fair! Not Fair! You have the priviledge of reading it in its entirety... and you keep tantalizing us! <grin>

We realize, of course, that you cannot share the whole thing with us. We know you would, if you could. But it is Torture!

In all seriousness... I want to add my congratulations to you both, as well. It does, indeed, appear to be an immense compliment to you, Rich and Elaine, especially; but also to those who have been long-time contributors to the site. Speaking as one who is still exploring the site and finding little "corners" full of information... the accolade is well deserved.

You bet, probably through Amazon.com. If & when this is released, we'll do whatever we can to help promote it. And, if per chance it isn't, we hope to be able to offer it as a free download here on the site.

Greetings from the author of "the LOTM dissertation." I've been reading your responses, and now I, too, am tickled. We'll have to stop this soon, before things get messy. Regarding the book, I don't mind at all people reading "the whole enchilada." May the library gods smile on you. I have only the most enormous gratitude for such an enthusiastic audience, no matter the size. I simply don't want the electronic file circulating freely--at least not at this stage--as it might complicate relations with a publisher. Regarding book prospects, I'm completing a formal "prospectus" (in English, an elaborate proposal package) as we speak. My well connected advisors tell me that the prospects are good. I will certainly keep you posted. You should be aware that unlike the publishing of books on things like OJ and "The Butcher of Baghdad," academic publishing is, sadly, a SLOW process.

Welcome, Michael! Good to have you among us!

Regarding accessibility ... my "idea" was to have it available as a download via the "downloads" link up above [in the right hand corner]. That would limit initial access to registered users of the Mohican Board. You cannot access the page unless registered.

Will hold off on that till you give the OK.

In any event, may the Publishing Gods smile upon you!
