Yeah, I saw that. Quite a surprise. I have camped practically in the shadow of that bridge. So has Fitz. The ruins of two French and Indian War forts are right there -- Crown Point and Fort St. Frederic.
Frankly, I wish they would keep the ferry service and forget about building another bridge there. The bridge was always a blot on the historic landscape, imho. |

Haven't been up/over that way for a loong time, - but did take the ferry across once. Didn't stay, just a quick trip, - Champlain is one impressive lake, 'bout 100 miles long. |

Dittos on that, WW. |

I liked that old bridge! I am going to miss it. And I am going to miss breakfast since the restaurant was on the other side. And the history! Do you know that Robert Rogers crossed that bridge on his way to St. Francis? |

You can still go to breakfast, Fitz. Take the ferry. Or swim.
Btw... who is "Robert Robers?" |

I am very sad to see this bridge go. I like historical structures. The new one will look more modern. I see it as a victum of neglect. They've done some maintenance over the years, but not nearly enough. They should have painted it every year and sealed any cracks in the supports. It was 80 yrs old but look at the Golden Gate bridge. It's 72 but it's taken care of by a large staff. They're not going to let it rust away. Yes, this is a shame to both states that were supposed to take care of it. I wonder how many years the new one will last with this history of neglect. Hey Fitz are you thinking about another bridge? The St Francis Raid was in 1759? Are you testing us? If you saw the movie "What Lies Beneath" starring Harrison Ford you'll see the Crown Point Bridge. |
Been onboard since 1998.
