I just got back from Burgettstown in Western Pennsylvania, where I went for the funeral of my uncle Joseph who died suddenly last Wednesday night. We still don't know what caused it...but anyway, he was 74, a wonderful guy, highly intelligent, voracious reader and sports fan, a Korean War vet who was then blinded in a car accident at about age 30. But he soldiered on through the years and had many friends and loving relatives. Never missed a week of Mass at the Byzantine Catholic church no matter how lousy he felt or how rotten the weather. There are now only five left of my late mom's nine siblings. It was a credit to Uncle Joe's life that every single one of my cousins AND their spouses made it there, even if it meant driving nine hours and braving snow and sleet. Anyway, when you're sending up vibes, prayers, and etc. to the divine in the next few days, please add a few for Joseph Matalik. He's certainly in heaven...but prayers never hurt...

Sorry to hear of your loss, Christina. Your uncle must have been a wonderful man to know & his faith must have been beautiful to witness.
