The more flambouyant an entrance, the more one bursts on the scene with a flurry of posts, the more apparantly compulsive a new poster is, the shorter their stay here tends to be. And, the converse is usually true, as well. Those who lurk, then dip their toes in the water - tentatively - and then begin to post, those folks often times are the "lifers".
Just an observation - certainly a tendency, if not always the truth!
Upcoming Experiment: Will be setting up, or trying to, a forum that anyone can post to - anonymously - without becoming a "member." It will be fully moderated & discussion there must be LOTM-related - at least for starters. Users will appear there as "Guest 1," "Guest 2," etc., or something similar. This may turn out to be very temporary if it doesn't pan out well, but the idea here is that perhaps it'll flush out "lurkers" who don't post simply because they're reluctant to "expose" themselves on the Internet. We'll see how it works out, if I can get it going at all! At any point, these Guests can become "members," if they so choose, and participate in the entire forum.
