Hmmm ... Deja Vu ... all over again ... twice even! Yes, a NEW new deal ... The Mohican Board has been upgraded. Then, too, it was this time last year, on Veterans' Day, to be exact, that we began a long off-line period, well over a month. That was no fun! Here's hoping THAT doesn't repeat.

But, yes, the Board is upgraded. At first glance, you can probably not even tell. I can hear you all now, "What's the big to-do?" 'Cause really, it looks pretty much the same. Except for that Category Grouping thing on the main page ...

Looks can be deceiving ... There are A LOT of improvements spread throughout. Just about everything, actually. Just looking here, as I post ...

  • There are more text formatting buttons
  • The Font/Size/Color drop-down buttons work better
  • Like the Message Icons, the Smiles are right there to select from, and you can, if you wish, customize which ones you see
  • You can subscribe to the topic as you are posting it
  • If you are using Internet Explorer, you can highlight text, after the fact, and go back and format it [I had added that in the old version, but this is a bit better]

That's just here in this one window. You'll notice improvements everywhere - some major; some less so - but everywhere ... in your Profile, selecting/adding avatars, in the Private Messaging function, in the Classifieds, Events, Polls ... everywhere. Some you won't see, because they are only "visible" from this side - maintenance type things - AND, it is, at least to this point, virtually "hacker-proof," though that's bound to not last long. Best of all, though, is that this is the version that the developers will continue to improve & create add-ons for, so, it will get better & better.

All is not rosy! We lost a few things, some on purpose:

  • First, and foremost, to my mind, is the Gatherings Attended thing. That was my "baby" and I hated to give it up! All the info is still in the database, I just have to learn - all over again - how to make it appear in the posts ... some day!
  • The Forum Announcements are gone, though I replaced them with the front page news thing you may have noticed. This will return; I have it on the developer's say-so.
  • Birthdays - probably, that will be back.
  • By design - The Mohican Chat. Rarely used anyway, I never really liked the performance of that thing, even though Ilse & I spent hours translating the Danish to English! BUT, I re-added a link up there ... to our old chat room ... dusty, but still there. I'll redo the layout on that page a little later. I looked at it, and ... YUK!

By & large, though, there's very little lost - and most of that will be back - and much to gain! NOTE: You can add a Dynamic Signature, via your Profile, to your posts, including color, image, link, whatever - I wouldn't recommend a large image, for page-loading reasons, but it's an option.

If anything causes you problems, gives you an error message, or doesn't work, please let us know!

[Theresa, I fixed that Jump to Last Post thing for you! Glad you brought that up.]

Anyway ...

What's New:

From The Ramparts ... Ninth Dispatch has been received. In it, you'll find lots of pics of recent events at Montreal, Saratoga, and the Fort at No. 4. Plus, there's info on a new documentary being released that features some of this web site's contributors, Robert Rogers, and more. Do check it out!

The 2003 Great Mohican Gathering Page has been updated, ever-so-slightly, with revised visions of the itinerary.

Sophia is fine, btw ... taking milk & water for the first time, off the respirator, etc!

Ok, gotta go!

Happy Trails!

Glad to hear about Sophia, Rich. Must be a huge relief.

Thanks for your indefatigable efforts to better the site.

When you consider the place was almost on the ropes a year ago--quite a comeback!
