And speaking of the Gathering, let me just mention something that could be of interest.
As I am sure all of you know, we are currently in the midst of the 250th anniversary of the F&I War. And each site that had a major event during that war has tried to commemorate or reenact it at about the time it occurred. Fort Loudoun in Vonore, TN was besieged by the Cherokee and surrendered in August of 1760. The garrison marched 15 miles toward South Carolina, camped for the night, and were either captured or killed the next morning. This event will be recreated in 2010. The site is about 2 1/2 hours from Asheville. It could make a great addition to the Gathering if folks were willing to travel a little. There is a completely recreated 18th century fort, to the exact plan of the original, the area is beautiful, and it will be a very special event. |

I don't know if I will be able to make it to the 2010 Gathering or not. I promised my husband that if I could take my dream vacation of going to Ireland, then I would give up a couple of future vacations. He agreed, so next June we will be in Ireland.
I want to thank Steph for helping me out so much with my genealogy and sparking an interest that I have had for years into a reality. I just wish that I had more time in Ireland to do some research, but my family would disown me if we spent all of our time going through records while we are there.
But..... if there is anything that I can send for Ariel's Auction and the raffle, you know that I would love to donate anything that I can!!!

Okie dokie --- it is June, 2009 ... one year to go ... and nary a sign or peep.
I am wondering: Will there be a Gathering? Should there be a Gathering? |

Yes, it's June. The time when I think of all the nice people I've met in North Carolina. I'll miss the woodland hikes, waterfalls, white water rafting, hiking along the cliffs, and the other movie sites, and all the great fun we always have.
I hope everyone is well. I'm still happy working at the school. Tomorrow I bring my Dad in for catarac surgery. And for the last couple months I've been tending to my failing cat. She's 15 1/2 yrs with kidney failure. I'm afraid it's no use. I'll have to put her down. It breaks my heart. She's such a sweetie. Have a great summer! I miss you all. Donna |

Oh I'm really sorry about your cat -- they do tend to get under our skin, don't they? Just in our married days alone, we've had cats who've made great differences in our lives, from Fred (15+ years) to Stanley (32 days). We miss 'em all... |

If I were in better physical condition and didn't have this dang arthritis so bad...I'd love to be there! I mean...I wouldn't be able to participate in any hiking and I am scared to death of heights :) but boy do I still love LOTHM! Just re-watched again for the humpteenth time night before last and it is still just as good as it was the first time I watched it! |

Of course there will be a Gathering in 2010, I thought we already decided that! Sorry if I needed to take a break from planning and all that, but I have recently been re-starting the planning process and things are definitely underway! Fitz... your Fort Loudon suggestion is greatly appreciated and is being considered. A few brave scouts will head west to the fort in August or September, and a final decision will be made at that time. After that, a final schedule will be announced. |
