This might turn out to be more of a Sophia update than a web site update ... sorry ... I can't resist!
Sophia's Bio To Date:
- Born: October 7, 2002 at 11:36AM at Memorial Mission Hospital in Asheville by "emergency" C-section
- Weight: 2lb. 5 oz.
- Length: 13 and a half inches
- Age: 26 weeks!
She steadily lost weight the first week or so, but has equally steadily regained it the past week. She looks great right now. It's very hard not to be able to hold her. We can touch her, but that's about it. It's also very hard leaving her in that sterile hospital environment, 40 miles from our home every day. We know it's necessary, but that doesn't mean we like it! Her condition remains CRITICAL but STABLE.
As all little premature babies do, she's had her share of setbacks in her nearly 2 weeks of out-of-the-womb life. She graduated to a respirator that merely supplements her own breathing - it does nothing if it's not needed - but has regressed to her first model which pumps in little puffs of air to keep her lungs constantly inflated. She also has a heart murmur. It's been treated with medicine and appears to have closed, though we haven't gotten the official word from the doctor yet. If not, they'll attempt another 3 day regimen of the meds. Only a 50% success rate expected with a second dose. Then, the next option is surgery to clamp it shut with a stainless steel staple that will stay with her for life.
Our own Gadget Girl was one of Sophia's visitors this week! It was good seein' her!
So ... it's back to work for me, and that's going to mean less visits to see the little one. The past two weeks, the trip to Asheville has been a nearly daily routine. Alas ... I'm really going to miss her!
Thank you, all, for the well-wishes & prayers. Sorry I haven't provided a better photo, yet. They are hard to come by, as you have to shoot through the Plexiglas which blurs the image a bit ... not to mention all the gadgets & stuff. Hmmm ... did Gadget Girl come to see the baby ... or, the GADGETS?!?
OK ... enough ... basically, she's doing well!
Around the Site: Nothing new, at all.
Around the Board: As you know, a new feature, the "Members Spotlight." It's visible down at the bottom of the main board page. Randomly, it spotlights members who have a photo attached to their Profile.
On the "upgrade" front, the Classified Ads add-on has been updated, so we're one step closer. At some point, I'll probably do it on impulse ... a few things I don't want to give up, but we may have to do without ... for a while, anyhow ... You can see the new software at the Against All Odds Message Board [the real one, not the one attached to this board!].
MIA: Theresa!!!!! Computer is shot. As soon as it's fixed, or they buy a new one, we'll see her smiling face again!
Back in the Fold: Guess who signed up for the 2003 Gathering Mailing List yesterday? Jo "Sweetser" Tishler! It would be SOOOOO fine to have the Sweetsers back at the Gathering!!!
Speaking of the Gathering: GG has been scouting out a Geneva alternative. One might have been found, in Bat Cave ... close to Chimney Rock Village AND on the way toward Asheville, so, it could be a good choice. It's, in a way, a possible throwback to the Bunkhouse ... plus, it has a dining hall, pool, and other stuff. We'll have to see how well they meet our needs. Will keep you posted.
And that's that!
Thanks, folks ...

Oh, I don't don't mind a Sophia update at all! I WANT to know every little detail.:) As you know my grandson was born premature as well via emergency c-section. But- he was only 5 weeks premature! Robbie had a murmur as well, but it went away on it's own! Here is to hoping Sophia's will too!! We will continue to keep her in our prayers!

Rich,
Work sure gets in the way sometimes! Thanks for news on Sophia, and for continuing to work on gathering details. Good to hear Jo will be making the trip, too. Stay sane (or keep foolin' us, anyway)! Jayne
