Egad! Talk about feeling like yer wheels are stuck in the mud! So much going on, and I just can't seem to get it in gear ...

Tomorrow is ... MARCH 1. That's a "deadline." For the Coins For Chingachgook. Though the flight is booked, we are seriously short of the necessary funds. Here's hoping there's a last minute boom!

A measly 3 and a half months till the 2004 Mohican Gathering gets underway ... and though it is a fantastic program, with lots of unique stuff going on, not to mention some very special attendees who will immeasurably color the event, we seem stuck on 51 Gatherers. I know, I've been here before - - those smileys sum it up. I don't know what else to do!

Guess I'll just sit it out and wait ... many loose ends need tied up as well.

On the other hand, progress is being made on my Author's Expanded Edition of On the Trail of the Last of the Mohicans !! Excellent buyer response - it is still a popular item - and I'm almost through putting it together [my new 'puter is a dream, though it did slow me down in the playing with it!!!]. Even the cover is progressing. I have a "sometime in April" date posted for its release. That may be sooner as long as there are no publication issues on the horizon. I can't wait to see it in print. I expect to have a "finalized" proof of the contents ready in the near future. When I do, I will replace the current .pdf file that is in the DOWNLOADS section [see links, upper right] of the Mohican Board with it. It will be a compacted Web-version, not the quality of the final printed version, but it'll be available here as a free download to all Board members ... I'll post it when it's there. Of course, till it's printed, it's never really "final."

Congrats Most Definitely In Order! - really, they are!

Thanks to Theresa, I think the AOL issue I posted about is resolved. Well, I know it is ... for how long is the question.

From all reports, The Passion of Christ is a must-see. Don't deny yourself!

Shopping Cart on this site still is a-coming ...

... and so is a new Private Message "alert" notification.

Honestly folks, this Gathering needs your help. Can't emphasize that enough. OK? OK!

Gotta run ...

Please, please, please listen to Rich and come to the Gathering!!! This newbie has one very specific reason for making this plea (besides wanting to meet lots of you in person, and have a great time, and get to know Rich before he dies of a heart attack born of frustration, or something equally catastrophic):

Ever since I signed up for the Gathering and learned about Ariel's Auction, I knew that a long-held dream was about to be realized: I could buy lots of colonial-related stuff and not feel guilty about it!! Because, of course, it's not for me, it's for Ariel. So I've been going out, attending assorted odd events, and buying stuff. Bet you never heard of an "antique hunting and fishing show," did you? Well, there was one here a few weeks ago, and I (scenting prey, so to speak) went to it, and now anyone who has always wanted a copy of "The Colonial Angler's Manual of Flyfishing and Flytying" can come to the auction and buy one. How about a handsome embroidered patch from the Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art, showing a flintlock rifle, bag, and powder horn? Yep, got one of those too, but you'll have to buy my Pennsylvania basket of goodies to get it because it's one of many, many things (some edible) that I'm going to put in there. Or how about a book of stories about growing up in the western NC mountains, written -- and autographed -- by Appalachian balladeer Sheila Kay Adams, LOTM's very own "humming woman"? (Got that at a concert of hers, not at the hunting and fishing show.) And from my own library of colonial history (which is not too shabby, if I do say so myself), you can have a great big book entitled "The Great Trail: from the Forks of the Ohio to the Tuscarawas Valley," which is loaded with maps and is also signed by its author, Gary Winterburn (free autographed bookmark included).

The point is, I'm going to figure out a way to get all of this stuff into a tiny little Mazda Protege so it can make the passage south, and I do NOT want it to then have to make the passage north, stuffed in there with my dirty laundry and all the Indian stuff I'm going to buy for my father-in-law for Christmas, because nobody showed up to buy it!!! Not to mention that after having worked so hard for Ariel, I'll be feeling very self-congratulatory and entitled to buy the stuff that other people bring, so you'll have a ready market there for your stuff. So heed the wise words of our Sachem, and if at all possible, REGISTER NOW, and COME TO THE GATHERING!!! Thank you.

Mary!

Kay is soooo right! You are truly generous and big-hearted, for sure!

Just don't step on the brakes too hard on your way to the Gathering! I'd hate for all that stuff to go flyin', hit you in the back of the head, and cause you to forget which direction you need to go. We NEED you to show up at Ariel's Cabin, make no mistake about that.

And don't despair, Mary - you'll have some mighty fine auction choices if goods are delivered as promised.

Take care now,

Jayne
