What with the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend, visitation is understandably down - always is. Yet, we've had an influx of new, registered, "members." Here's hoping most of them participate! As I always do, I was checking their profiles, and one was of particular interest - as I post, the most recent "member." Check out this URL: LOTM Blood & Guts !

Tried working on refining/adding some features of the board, but met with failure. Nothing seemed to work. Will continue trying!

Did make major progress on my Expanded Edition of On the Trail of the Last of the Mohicans. Still a ways to go, but moving along rather nicely. For your previewing pleasure, I've uploaded a compact .pdf version to the site [through The Burial Ground scene] which can be accessed here. It can also be reached by clicking on the "Downloads" link up in the right-hand corner of most board pages. It's still in need of some editing, but you'll get the idea. Comments - critical or otherwise - welcomed! Two things:
  • The "Lay of the Land" page is the table of contents & is purposefully left blank as I do not know how the page numbers will fall just yet.
  • You will notice some blank pages scattered about. That is to allow the pages to fall as they did in the original - that is, new chapters, or scenes, begin on the right-hand pages, photos generally on the left. I have two choices, as I see it. Fill the blank pages with relevant "sidebar" information or photos, OR, delete 'em and let the pages stay as they lay. We'll see. Suggestions?
Of course, it greatly upsets me to have to forego the pleasure of full color! That was my top priority with the first edition, thus its necessarily compact size. Will try to make up for this by increased information. The "booklet" will now be a true "book."

Another "problem" - the cover. Don't have one! The cover that Lainey did for the defunct Companion Guide [below], though I very much like it, is not really usable for several reasons. The thickness will be different from that planned for the Companion Guide, meaning the spine won't fall the same, resulting in the entire cover being thrown off. Plus, it's not a "companion," but rather a "re-do" edition. I've thoughts in mind, but anyone contributing a good idea that ends up being utilized gets a free copy of the book. How's that?

With Christmas just around the corner now, I need to make one more unpleasant plug for our Frontier Trading Posts - books, videos, CDs, DVDs, 2004 Locations Calendar, shirts, mugs, caps, computer games, wampum jewelery ... all sorts of goodies. Consider buying at least one gift through there! It helps!

Very unexpected - and welcomed - guests came a-calling yesterday afternoon. Eric [Soldier #2] & Sharon Hurley. They both looked great & it was even greater to see 'em. Very nice visit!! More on Eric one day ...

... and so it has gone for another week.

Happy Trails!

Yeeks! The blood and guts were something else! You got my attention! Now, I'll have to watch LOTM again (bummer!), to look for the burnt body and the massive bloody wounds!

I was at the 2000 Gathering, and I seem to remember a story that Eric Hurley told about someone in the emergency room peeling off his headwound, causing a student nurse to pass out! (I may have the story wrong...Eric will have to tell it again at the Gathering!)

It's amazing how there is always something NEW to look at in the Last of the Mohicans!

Hi Rich,
I agree with "Dances," those prosthetics are gruesomely wonderful!
I saw The Missing yesterday, and Eric's prostheses are incredible too. He plays one ugly dude!
As for the cover of the new guide, can't the fit be adjusted? Not being computer literate in such things, how much time would it take to center each cover on the new size? You could call it "The Expanded Guide to..."
Just a thought.
Chris
PS- It's still snowing. We got 8" Thursday night and should get 3-6" more today. I think we're close to 2 feet for Nov. Whoopee!!

Well, something must have worked, because when I logged on this afternoon I discovered "Young George W." (my avatar) up near the top where it says, "You are logged in as..." Cool! Nice touch!

Double Wow... on the LOTM blood and guts link! Very realistic! And welcome to Vincent Guastini! We hope that you will pull up a stump and join in with us.

P.S. Chris, congratulations on the snow! Hope it continues for you.

Yes, WW, I fixed that right after I posted. Glad you like it. It is cool!

Chris, as for the cover - that could possibly work - not as easy as it sounds, though. My main problem with that is the original file is on Lainey's computer - I just have the .jpg version. It is huge - very high resolution. My measley 96MB of RAM won't handle it. And, Lainey is on strike - or something - 2 leagues, better wages.

Anyway, it will be covered!!!!

HA! Good for Lainey! Have you tried "buying" computer time from her? She might be willing to negotiate.
Good luck.
