Hope those of you enjoying a day off - here in the Americas - enjoy your day off! And those of you who are veterans of our armed forces, take a special bow! You are appreciated! SgtMunro has posted a very fine Thought[s] For The Day already, at: Tuesday, 11 November 2003. It is Veterans' Day here in the USA.
Some things I forgot to mention, or just thought to mention, in this week's Weekly Update:
Another Moderator Wanted: Any volunteers? No, no one is leaving, or anything ... just thought another would be useful. Nothing to fear, if you can handle this board. What do you do?
- Be a normal, regular poster, as always!
- Edit, delete, & lock posts, as necessary [in your designated forums only]. Very rare to have to delete, except in the case of double posts. Edits typically take the form of fixing broken URLs or missing forum code tags - at least that's what I do. BTW, you can edit your own posts [that's EVERYBODY] up to 24 hours after posting them. It used to be anytime, then not at all ... long story.
- Move misplaced posts from your forums to their more proper forum.
- If we had "moderation enabled," which we don't, in one of your forums, you would approve or disapprove posts made before they would appear. No need for that here, but I suppose the time could come ... it's an option.
That's it! A piece of cake. E-mail me, if interested in the job! No pay, by the way, just my eternal thanks!
Spam Killer: I have Spam Killer installed on my system & it does a reasonably good job of filtering out 75% of the junk mail sent my way. On rare occasions, I've noticed a "good" mail "killed." Due to the very large number of E-mails - mostly garbage - we receive, I am taking up the offer by our web host to have a server-side filter installed. I just can't take all the junk that makes its way through to my mailbox. It's an obscene total, even with the Spam Killer software. Hopefully, this is the answer. What worries me is that maybe some good mail will never get through to me in some instances. That may be its only drawback. So, if you send something my way, and I don't respond, that may be why. In that case, send me a private message through this system. I expect the filter to be installed any day now ...
Where's Lainey? I hear some of you asking. She's here ... homeschooling, playing chauffeur, caring for our Special One , and generally being very busy. I think her in-depth posting has taken a lot out of her [my words, not hers!] ... One day, I'm relatively sure, TGAT One will reappear. You can E-mail her at: elaine@wnclink.com Elaine is incredibly passionate about most anything she believes, as I think it shows in her writings both here & on the site ... that can take its toll in situations such as those found here. Again, my words ...
And Mohicanland continues to surprise me - it shouldn't anymore - with who shows up around here!!! There's just one thing I'd wish ... nah ... I won't go into it here & now.
At Biltmore House, Gathering 2000 - Donna, Eric, Ilse, Rich, Bill, Betty, Marcia, Adele
Peaceful day to all ...

Thanks Theresa. Well, I guess if you don't have to be too smart then I would like to volunteer if you need a moderator Rich. |

Yeah ... and look who the Administrator is:
Actually, chassis_22, the "position" was filled by Wilderness Woman. Thank you for the offer, though! |

Frighteningly enough, Doc M used to wear her hair just that way back in Junior High! AGGGGGHHHHH! Here's a beauty tip, Rich -- if you're going to wear that much blush, you should balance it out with more mascara. I do admire your bold sense of color, however!

So did Wilderness Woman. But her hair bows were usually blue and were worn fetchingly on the side of the head... never just perched on the top! Tsk, tsk. |

Disgraceful, isn't it? Who do I think I am?? Actually, though, I had a big zit in the middle of my forehead which I used the bow to cleverly disguise. Pretty neat, huh?
As for the colors, etc., I was assisted in outfitting myself here by the once Mighty Mohican Mama Marcia. I cannot claim all the credit!
Waitin' on the gun accoutrements, William! |

Well, I don't know about YOUR high school, WW, but in my New Jersey school we beat up the weenies who wore their bows on the side!

Oh, dearie me, no, Doc M! In my high school, which was in the... ahem... civilized state of Oregon, we never ever beat anybody up. No, no, no.
The worst things we did were to make the poor little freshmen dress up in completely humiliating outfits and scrub the hall floors with toothbrushes for Frosh Initiation! Oh, but I must admit... there was the unfortunate incident at Halloween one year... when someone stole an outhouse from a local farmer's field and placed it on the school roof. But we don't talk about that one too much. |
