This Web Site Is Gay
:true:
Who uses embedded music anymore, anyway?
Along with crappy navigation and the dreaded "lets fill the bottom 3/4's of the page with pictures that is linked to other stuff".
I guess this was the week of the "Anonymous" Poster! Reminds me of the old Board, where anyone could be anonymous at any time, and thus we had much more of this type of thing. Well I remember. Do you?
I'm glad this particular fellow [or Gal] finds us so happy. Tickles me PINK, if you'll pardon the pun. But, he does make 2 observations that do ring true ...
1 - I don't know about "nobody," but very few web sites use embedded music. Sorry to be of such low class. Chic never was my thing. But, in truth, from time to time we do hear this "complaint." Oh well. We also get lots of, "I love the music. Do you sell it? What is that tune? etc. etc."
2 - This place can be a bear to navigate. No argument there. We've done what we could over the years in the way of a Navigation Bar, assorted menus, and even a link to the site's search feature ON EVERY PAGE. YOU try making a thousand web pages easy to navigate. Short of starting all over, there's not too much that can be done. It is the way it is because it's been added to & added to & added to & ... Believe it or not, though, on occasion we are told folks found it EASY to navigate. Go figure.
I don't even know what this person's 3rd point means [or, I guess it'd the 4th, if we count the "Gay" remark].
Funny, how empowered folks get when they can be "anonymous." Maybe we should rethink allowing that. We do so, by the way, because we know that some people are Internet-shy. Thought that might help with folks who want to participate, but are afraid to have their personal info out there.
Anyway, we had another anonymous zinger this week, too.
Where to get movie?
Hurry! I _really_ need "Last of Mohicans" movie. Where can I download it?
A couple of you supplied realistic answers. He/she didn't like it, and replied:
Internet was supposed to be a free zone, and ones like me will try to keep it free as long as possible. I am not alone... I need the movie just for notes by my history project - nothing more. It's in all large file exchange networks already - and you cannot stop it. Why to spend 5 dollars on something you can get forfree? Why to use cars when walking is free and good for health? What's wrong with system of your ideals, you - Native-Americans-fans? And by the way, the movie was released 11 years ago, and all the people who were working on it got their piece of profit already. If you go to huge supermarket and buy piese of plastic for 5 bucks, you will just support monopolyzing of the world by huge corporations - wasn't it one of the things that destroyed Indian culture?.. Shame on you...
Many of you got ticked off, for a variety of understandable reasons. I concur with them all.
But, the first thing that ticked me off was the initial word: Hurry. Right then & there. I no longer have patience for this type of person ... usually, this type of request comes via E-mail. Translation: My time is much more valuable than yours, so please spoon feed me all your hard work so that I can sit here, cheating/stealing, on my lazy, fat ass. NO patience.
Then, in the second post, we get the condescending morality play ... bringing the "Native American" thing into it ... ending with Shame on you - Give me a break. What exactly is a Native American fan anyway? An Eagle wing?!?
Then, the third post - after numerous replies to the second - tries to

(Wilderness Woman chuckles to herself...)
Yes, it has been an interesting few days, hasn't it? Boy, some chains got jerked this week, eh? Just a little reminder to us all that "They Are Out There!"
Rich, regarding Anonymous Posting, I have a few questions. Have you noticed:
1. A marked increase in board participation since implementing anonymous posting?
2. I'm not sure if you have a way to track this, but have there been very many posters who began as Anonymous, then decided to join in and post under a "handle"?
3. Would eliminating anonymous posting really prevent this sort of thing from happening?
And one final thought to throw out... "joining" and posting under a registered handle does not mean that the person's information is out there for the public, right? We have a number here who did not create a profile, thus remaining anonymous to all of us (except perhaps you!).
Please don't get me wrong... I'm not advocating for either keeping or eliminating anonymous posting. Just playing Devil's Advocate!

No, not really.

There is a way, by comparing the IP addresses of various posters. Unless there were to be a serious problem, it's not something I seek to do. Time consuming sometimes. Anyway, on this board I'm not aware of any - though there very well may be - but on "Against All Odds," it has happened several times. I know 'cause the posters, themselves, brought attention to it.

Eliminate? Probably not. Reduce? Yes, definitely. It's not so bad here, so I am not considering that at this time.

You're right, mostly, but they do have to supply a VALID E-mail address ... that's the clincher, usually, right there.

No problem, Joyce ... that's what the board is for! Speak yer mind, Lassie! |

I wasn't gay before logging on today! The wit of the people here certainly brighten up an otherwise dreary Sunday. LOL If I wasn't gay before, I certainly am now! Thank you to all! I needed the chuckles!
Thank you for the 9th installment of the Tattoo Tantilizers! I'll be sure to send the Studigroup over here to check them out. |

Right you are Theresa! I went to my site and it was there already! Thanks!
BTW, Russell Means has appeared at two Firecat performances (Wes Studi and his band host an annual fundraiser in Santa Fe) and was very gracious when fans asked for pictures. One fan (a white) told him that she had read his book and he asked her what she thought and they discussed it. I think he will be gracious and polite with the folks at the LOTM gathering as well, and if you want to talk politics, I'm sure he's game for that as well.
