Remember, waaaay back, I used to debate - with myself - the burning issue: to post or not to post!?! Back then, we were so busy adding material to the web site ... now on a 1GB server!!!! ... with 425 web pages [give or take - always changing - and not counting archived messages or this active board or the Against All Odds or Corner Tea House sites] that must translate into well over 5,000 printed pages!!!!!, 2,671, and counting, images [again, on the Last of the Mohicans portion alone], 74 sound files, 44 Real Media files, plus extras like downloadable versions of the script, novel, screensaver ... just didn't have the time. [check the archives of the old board ... I rarely posted in the beginning] Well, the point being that the site is now so large that there isn't all that much to add to it. There is, and always will be, new material to add, work to be done, but it's not like even 2 years ago when we were constantly trying to expand ... and spending hours & hours & hours every week writing, designing images, transcribing, researching, blah, blah, blah ...

So, I find myself with lots more time to fool around & play ... with the Board - Snitz Forums version! That is probably the direction the web site will go in ... community forum ... not that it hasn't already been that, just that there'll be - already has been, actually, an emphasis shift - a conscious one!

The Gathering Pages will always grow ... till we stop having them, anyway ... so will the History Section, from time-to-time we'll add to Musings or Off The Beaten Trail or Photo Galleries, various contributor columns, ala Tim Cordell ... who knows? But, it's no longer constant. We've achieved our goal of creating a content-rich, comprehensive web site ... unmatched by any other on the subject. We've managed to take a story & use it to spark & develop interest in the history, re-enacting, and more.

Which all is a long-winded, round-a-bout way of saying - as I've already said - that I have, and will be, spending more time here.

Added this week, to the board ... the Announcement feature [only useable by me, though], the hoover colors [though Netscape users, I'm afraid, can't see 'em!], a bunch of avatars for your use, and a few tweaks to enhance performance. Use the stuff that's here, please. Vote in the polls, add events as you come across them ... enjoy the place!

On the Gathering front, as per the "Announcement," we've begun our 2003 Informational Mailing List. Sign up if you think you might be here next June & want to know the inside developments & news on that subject. Not much will happen, in the way of mailings, over the next month or two, but then ... do sign up! I've compared this Fifth Gathering - as have others - with the First Gathering. This is just another indication of that. The DAY after the First, Marcia & Myrrh called me to begin discussions on the next! The enthusiasm was real, fresh, and strong ... that's how it is this time! Thank God for that! 2003 Gathering

E-Mail of the Week: This, in its entirety ... no editing:
quote:
i am writing to you because i was wondering if there was anyway that i could find a list of everybody that was in the war. i am doing some family research and it would really help me.
thank you,
erin
e-mail me back with anything that you get

I'm getting right on that one!

[just noticed ... my member has advanced! No longer average! ]

Fireside Chat: Two of my sons just returned from a week-long trip up to New York for a visit. While there, the did go to Ground Zero ... haven't talked with them at length yet, but they seemed fairly aghast! Someone, whose name was not recalled, who grew up down the block from me, though much younger, was killed in the terrorist attack ... This thing just doesn't seem to end ...

On the brighter side, and related to the web site, and again, details are sketchy as related by my son ... a childhood great bud of mine, Vinny, was listening to NY radio a couple of weeks ago - a talk show, though I don't know which one - and a caller was commenting on this big get-together that was going to happen down in North Carolina; that there was this great web site about The Last of the Mohicans, and all these people were getting together down there to see the sites, etc! Yeah ... on a New York radio talk show!!! Vinny had no idea that it was my web site and our Mohican Gathering that was being discussed, until he mentioned it to my brother, Ronnie, who in turn recounted to my boys ... Such a very small world!

Suggestion Box: Two ideas for a Gathering Page theme song so far, one posted on the Board by Christie [aka Kiki in the old board ancient - '97 - archives], "Still Crazy After All These Years," by Paul Simon. The other? Via E-mail ... "Moon River"!

Back to the Board ... tried to install a Classified Ads add-on, but hesitated, as it appears to be incompatible with the new board version ... am waiting on advice and/or updated version. It will be good for folks looking for, or offering, posters, period accoutrements, etc. Ought to have a Newsletter add-on installed later today ... so, if the board's acting quirky, that could be the cause ... a mad scientist tinkering again!

New, and Possibly Overlooked: More From Lake James

And, finally ...

Fair Warning Department: Oh me, oh my - o ... Something weighing heavily on me old mind. Suggestion given, from one "in the know," to deal with it right here. I have to think this through, for a week, or two, or however long it takes, but will get back to you all on it ... right here. Just might coincide with the "Anniversary." There ... don't you just love suspense?!?

Till next time ...

Is that what you call them? I thought my computer was going crazy.

How about "Moon Dance" from Van the Man Morrison? Or "Bad Moon Rising"????

Which reminds me ... where's my money?
All work & no pay made Lainey up & quit one day.
I'm willing to negotiate ... while you *snitz* I'll resume (no blah, blah, blah ... not in my job description.}
I hear the Courier Editors have the inside scoop on the 5th & Final Gathering; all the details attendees don't want anyone to know. There's also breaking news on those Cherokee girls who hang around Inside The Long House. AND .... ever wonder which gatherer most frequently headed west to Can-Tiki? Or what REALLY happened on Table Rock MT & what became of the mysterious 5th & Final LOTMooner??? All the news that's fit to print ... and then some.

Said Scott:

It's like you always say, Scott. Aim small, miss small.

So. Did you say you would be attending the 6th & Final Gathering? Great! See you then ....

It's reassuring to know that Rich advanced on his own, the hard way, without a special in.

I'm not sure what I'm doing at the end of the week, much less next year, but we'll see.

Rich,

Have you thought about having a seperate section for High Quality Pictures that could be down loaded. I am talking about at least 400k per picture for good digital images that could be enlarged withoug quality loss. I don't know how much space your server has or what the network bandwidth usage is, so it may not be realistic to create a seperate section. Just asking.

Phil

It's doable, Phil ... we have lots of soundfiles & Real Media ... all the RM, and many of the sounds, are larger than these images would be ... let me know the details of what you have in mind.

PS - We have 1GB of server space.

Dawn???

That's a bit early isn't it?

I'm inclined to sleep in and catch the next guide.

Unless perhaps if breakfast is included.
