Ok, ok ... jeez ... I had to pick myself up off the floor first!!!

OK, folks, Part II of this week's Weekly Update! Here's my completed rifle, fashioned by Bill Rooks, and purchased for me by many of you. It is a beauty, a dream come true ... I don't know what to say or do! It ought to be here, in my hands, in a week or so ...

You know, we used to sell Bill's Killdeer replicas here on the site. They looked real nice in the pics. One time, Bill routed a completed order to my house first for a look-see before forwarding it on to the customer. WOW!!! What a difference ... the photos just didn't do it justice. It was a real beauty. I absolutely cannot wait to see this up close & personal ...

It's coming, it's coming!!! TODAY!

Been diligently checking the on-line tracking ... it left Greensboro, NC at 12:47AM today. I want, so badly, to call in sick today so that I can be here when Old Brown [UPS] pulls up ... but, duty calls ...

Soon ...

Well according to tracking, when I've just now checked before going out the door, it was delivered! Of course, it will probably take you two days to unwrap that sucker given how much I wanted to ensure it arrived safely! Hope you like it, and it gives you many happy times on the range, at encampments, and a-ranging.

Not really fainted ... stunned, maybe ... I think I managed to hang on to consciousness ....

Yes. It did arrive on Thursday. It was here already when I came home for lunch ... I carefully unpacked it - it was wrapped ... and wrapped ... and wrapped... with lots of bubble wrap.

At this point, I have yet to really, really look it over carefully ... too much goin' on here at the moment, but ...

... I can say this ... it's like a piece of furniture. Beautiful. I look at it standing in the corner, and absolutely cannot believe that it is mine. There's a neat little plate on it, with my initials, and an empty Kit Kat wrapper within the patchbox ... nice touches ...

A friend gave me some 4F powder for the pan & 2F powder for the muzzle ... so, now I have to get up the gumption to go out in the pasture & actually shoot the thing! I think I want to gaze at it some more, though, before I do that ... plus get what I need to clean it with ...

I will give a more detailed account soon ... right now, just letting it all sink in!

You can use 3f powder for the charge and the prime and you only have to carry one grade of powder. The only advantave of 4f is if you dryball one like I did at the "Un-Gathering" (running my mouth instead of my mind), you can tap some 4f down the vent and blow the ball out. It's always handy to have some around for that purpose.

Rich,
Best cleaner I have made is, take one part Murphy's Oil Soap, one part Rubbing Alcohol, and one part Peroxide. Mix equal parts and put in a sealable bottle (it is bubbly what with the peroxide so it will pop a cork). Be sure to oil the barrel after use and check again for several days afterward and lightly oil again. But it sure does get the blackpowder residue out.

Bill designed and created a magnificent rifle for Wes Studi. Wes brought it to our meeting this past weekend. It was truly a work of art! I'll try and post a picture of it.

Awww. Thanks for the nice words Carter! Folks, Carter is Prez for the Wes Studi fan club. Does a fine job too. As Rich well knows, being the honcho for a website that's well in the public eye can be right debilitating sometimes!

Hello, Carter, and Welcome! I checked out your Studigroup website. Very nice!

I may be the only person here who didn't already know about this group, and its connection to Wes Studi. If so, forgive me. I have to admit to being a bit stunned at your announcement that Wes came to a fan group meeting! I, for one, would like to hear more. Does he do that regularly? Where does your group meet?

I have been very impressed with everything I have read about Wes. He seems like another actor (along with Steven Lang) who is a truly nice person first... then an actor secondarily.

I am also impressed that he is now the proud owner of one of Bill's creations. Congratulations, Bill!

W.W., you would be real impressed with the ease in which he (Wes) mingled with us at the 2001 Gathering. A true people person and chock full of personality.

Welcome, Carter...hope to see ya again!

Hey Rich,
I'm SO JEALOUS!! I had my deposit down on a beautiful York Co., PA rifle, but a negative turn in finances two years ago caused me to let it go. I still want it!! I just can't compete with a smoothbore, even though I'm a pretty good shot. Anyway, it looks like you have something beautiful there.

I'm writing to tell you that a couple of my mentors also support the Murphy's Oil Soap/rubbing alcohol/Hydrogen Peroxide mix for really good cleaning. In the field, if I need to clean it I just use the rubbing alcohol because it can defoul the barrel and dry it quickly. But off the field, that mix is good to have around.

Ummmmm, have you actually shot it yet?

Bill, nicely done!!!

YHOS,
English Trader
