Life, it would seem, is full of lessons.

What we do with those lessons, I suppose, determines who we are ... and where we go from here.

Speaking of myself, all too often lessons learned become lessons forgotten. The lesson of life gets put on the back-burner, however unintentionally, and the stroll down life's path continues uninterrupted.

My little daughter's birth, and subsequent near death, taught me many lessons - important ones - and I made a little promise to myself to not allow them to ever slip away, but rather to always let them guide any future actions I may take in my life. This particular promise has, built in, an unfair advantage. One that makes it a bit easier to keep. And that would be that Sophia herself is an ever-present & constant reminder to me ...

So, this version of The Weekly Update is not really an update at all. Not about the site or this board anyway. Rather, perhaps, an update on me ... or one aspect of me at the least.

After the big to-do of two years ago, I was convinced of what I already knew - or thought I knew. And that was that the realm of Internet friendships is a delicate & shallow one at best. Other than a very few acquaintances, nearly all Internet friendships were a crock of bull. That's how I saw it. Even now, I do believe that can still very frequently be the case. I mean you really don't always know who it is you are dealing with. There's only so much you can decipher from the Internet experience - in most cases.

Thankfully, Mohicanland isn't most cases! Your outpouring of love & understanding during the most gut-wrenchingly stressful 6 months of Sophia's crisis - from October to April - changed dramatically how I look upon this place. Friends do what you all did.

After the big to-do of two years ago, gnawing at me constantly was the question, "How were my actions in that mess perceived?" Even after the Gathering of 2002, I had very severe doubts. And, probably, there are a few individuals who do think poorly of me due to my actions in that affair. I still do what I can to try to rectify that.

Then there was the presentation of a series of gifts at this year's Great un-Gathering. Please see the updated details, with pictures of my almost-finished rifle in this post. I was - and am still - completely overwhelmed. And I don't use that phrase lightly. As I looked over that list of contributors, representative, as I've said previously, of virtually every phase of this Mohicanland experience, I realized that even with all that has happened, I was appreciated.

That was important to me ... much more so than the actual gifts ... for that was a lesson.

Friends do things like that. Real friends. And friends like you I am proud to call friends!

Before I break down completely, he's a little something, hardly original, that boils it all down in a nutshell, friends:

Friendship is like peeing in your pants ...
Everyone can see it, but only you can feel it's true warmth.
Thank you for being the pee in my pants.

Happy Trails!

Well, you're quite welcome and let me say that I don't think I've ever received a compliment quite like that one! You are a very dear friend, indeed, and we are happy to know you and call you friend. Happy Trails!

Rich, you have a certain eloquence not shared by many. DDL could not have said it better himself. Pee in breechcloth, maybe.

Or as Hemingway would have said..........ask not for whom the pee warms, it warms for thee.
