Pretty much, a slow week around here, web-site wise. As is usual during the summer months, visitation drops off a bit. Rather than the 1600-2200 unique visitors we had been greeting each weekday, it's been about 1200-1600 these days. A regular pattern and we expect to see the numbers rise in the near future. Yesterday, a Saturday - typically the slowest day of the week here - we had 1,076 site visitors, only slightly below average for a usual Saturday. What was most surprising, and why I am mentioning this at all, is that there were but 51 Mohican Board visitors! That is the lowest total I can ever remember - at least since the very, very beginning back in the Spring of '97.
One reason for me not being around too much is work ... no days off the past couple of weeks. But, I figure, at time and a half, when I work on Saturdays, they are finally paying me what I'm worth ... close to it, anyway!
I will be working on the site for most of the day today, focusing on revenue-raising. As I've mentioned, with the supply of On the Trail ... guide books just about depleted, we're exploring other means of raising money to pay the monthly web-site related fees. One thing I'm looking into is a print-on-demand redo of the guide book - which, if it comes to pass, might even include parts of the Companion Guide we had planned, but eventually put to rest. We'll see - color printing remains quite expensive.
New on the Site: Anyway, along those lines, we've added three new shoppes to our Frontier Trading Post. I mentioned our new line of Quahog Wampum Jewelry last week. This go round, we are very pleased to have joined forces with HPS Games and can now offer their Early American historical simulation games at a $5 discount. Currently, we offer their newest, The French & Indian War, plus Campaign 1776 and The War of 1812. Great fun on your PC - between posts here, of course! In addition, we have a new Poster Shoppe ...
E-Mail of the Week: All is not lost ... from Maurice Roeves -
Hey Rich! [HE HAD A LITTLE "I'M SORRY" SMILEY FACE INSERTED HERE! - RF] Forgive yourself and then try to forgive us..Totally my fault..Got so tied up with friends for the 3 days we were there...Time just fled..Although I did try on our second day there to call ALL numbers but ALL numbers were engaged and I gave up after about 20 minutes with the notion of trying again later but later came and went..I am so sorry!! We will however be back again and I hope soon..2004. So will hang on to numbers and 'E' mail. Please forgive us..Hope you are both well..our very best wishes. Maurice
He now has the itinerary & dates for next year's Mohican Gathering in hand. We shall see what we shall see ... maybe at the theater?
About the Gathering 2004: Nothing really new to report, except in the numbers which continue to gradually inch upward - we weigh in, right now, at a total of 86 folks who intend to be here next June. That does not include the Means or Cordells, which pushes the total to 90! What is really nice is the mix of folks signing up ... many regulars, a good sprinkling of newbies, and many folks returning from the wilderness!! That makes me happy! In fact, there are quite a few things making me happy these days ...

Rich, Thanks for the update! The post office, payingyou close to what you're worth? No way.... you're priceless! :-) Glad you heard from Maurice; what a nice guy. Sounds like it just wasn't in the cards this time for whatever reason, so maybe next time it will work out. I'll be giving you a Cherokee update this week, Steph |
