: We also watched "The Crossing" ... Lainey wasn't too overly impressed with Jeff Daniels as Washington. I thought he, and the film, though not superlative, by any means, were enjoyable. It was a different Washington one saw, as opposed to our usual stereotypical impressions. A Washington with impatience, irritability, cool, determined force of will, humor ... all came across nicely. Good supporting cast, nice music ... Glad to see a rendition, ANY rendition, of one of early America's critical moments!

I watched it too. I wasn't overly impressed either, but found it okay for a Monday night's entertainment. I couldn't get Dumb and Dumber out of my head, either, Sarah! I think they chose him for his nose and chin/mouth: the long nose and the short chin (like he might have been wearing dentures--sorry, Jeff) made him look sorta-kinda like Washington.

I felt Jeff D. could have put a little more depth into the character...he seemed a little flat sometimes. But I did enjoy the humor (don't swing your b***s or you'll swamp the boat!) and the occasional irritability. A&E did a Biography on Monday of George Washington, which was very revealing and a little surprising too. It was curious to me that they didn't make the movie resemble the picture of Washington they'd revealed in the Biography a little bit more. That Biography piece alone would have been a great resource for the writers and Mr. Daniels.

It was okay, though.
