: FYI, for those who are interested, Dec. 14, 1999 was the 300th anniversary of the death of George Washington. Maybe that's one reason for a renewed interest in George. And for those of you who only remember Jeff Daniels from Dumb & Dumber, I recommend checking out some of his other movies such as Gettysburg (one of my favorites) and Arachnophobia (funny but hair-raising). He's a wonderful actor who can play a great "straight man" in the comedies.

Don't get me wrong - I've already said I loved him in Fly Away Home, and I liked him a lot in both Arachnophobia (such as it was), and Pleasantville was wonderful. And I think he did fine as GW (not great, but fine). I think the reason I had Dumb and Dumber stuck in my head was because he had to be so over-the-top in that, as I don't think that WAS Jeff Daniels. That's why I can't get it out of my head -- he tried so hard in those movies, that it's hard to get past them for being so utterly ridiculous!
I like Jeff Daniels, I liked The Crossing. But Dumb and Dumber still sticks in my head for what it was.
