Elaine, you make some very good points. I don't exactly picture Jeff Daniels as Washington, either. He seems far too laid back in my mind. But I wanted to defend him in case a lot of people were thinking of him only in terms of Dumb & Dumber. He has done some nice work. I'll be looking forward to seeing The Crossing, for several reasons, not the least of which is seeing what he does with the portrayal of Washington. I suspect your impressions of him are on the money. He certainly would not have been the first one to come to MY mind if I were casting the film.

But that's an interesting point...who WOULD one cast? Sam Waterston comes to mind for me. Who else? Anyone got a good suggestion? Who would look just right standing in the boat?
