"5.1" represents 1 subwoofer, and 5 other speakers to be placed around your room. So the sound of the movie (which is digital now... like comparing a tape to a cd) is spread throughout this 6 speaker system.
so if you happen to have this setup.... which i think is fairly expensive....
I'm sure it will blow away any VHS version of the movie.
and instead of hearing thing just go past your head... they will come from behind, to your right and left, above you, below you....
you will be "surrounded" with sound.
