For as long as I can remember, I've had a terrible phobia about going to the dentist. I'm talking major shaking, nausea, palpitations, even fainting, here. Big-time misery. I finally found a dentist who is sympathetic (instead of sarcastically belittling) and who has gone the extra mile to make me comfortable with every visit. We now have a standard routine when I arrive in his office.
"Will you be needing nitrous today, Marcia?"
"Will my backside be in the dental chair?"
"Of course."
"Then I'll be needing nitrous, won't I??"
I've tried to get them to meet me in the parking lot with it, but even they won't go THAT far. However, my wonderful dentist HAS done the something even better! When I sat down in the chair this past Tuesday, he fitted the mask over my nose, cranked the nitrous up, and clicked a switch on the wall. The next thing I knew, the theme music from LOTM was bursting forth from the speakers, and I was in 7th heaven. I think I may have had an out-of-body experience, drifting along in my befogged state, with visions of Hawkeye dancing in my head! What a trip.
"How are you doing NOW, Marcia?"
"Cool!" Says I! "Keep that soundtrack on & me floating along with it, and I don't care what you do to me!"
Afterwards, I found that the entire staff had been having a fine time laughing at me as they made excuses to stroll by my room & listen to me humming & giggling in there. Apparently that made their day. I know it made MINE.
The moral of the story is, if you hate having dental work done, buy your dentist an LOTM soundtrack. It will be worth the money. (that's in case your dentist isn't as wonderful as mine, who bought it for me all by himself!) The only downside to the whole experience is...now when I watch Hawkeye at home, I miss the nitrous oxide! ;o) Oh, well.
Still Floating With Hawkeye,
