remnant dialects

I ran across this site by accident. An onomastic told me that my Enscoe surname was from very old English found in the hickory flats and backwater swamps of Virginia and the Carolinas. That these settlements were cut off from any activity with neighboring settlements and retained original English speech patterns. Where can I find information on these groups of people?
