There was quite a bit of discussion on this movie back when. In the 2000 Archives, I found this thread - I believe it was the first - THE PATRIOT. There are many more mentions of the movie in that particular Archive - 2000 Part 3, I think.

Happy Reading!

Anyone know where "The Patriot" was filmed? Whew! Just finished rewatching it, put a few lumps in my throat, and oh that Aunt Charlotte. HUBBA-HUBBA.

Yes, Susquesus.

Much of it was filmed near Rock Hill, South Carolina. Historic Brattonville was used for the "Camden" plantation and for the interiors of Charlotte's plantation. Mansfield Plantation was used for the exteriors of Charlotte's plantation. Middleton Place was used for the scenes of the British ball ("O-o-o-o-hh! Fireworks!") Botany Bay Plantation was used for the slave beach camp.

In Charleston, SC, the College of Charleston was used for the historic buildings, and a man-made place called "Cypress Gardens" was used for the swamp scenes.

If you or anyone else is interested, there is a pretty neat website that has a lot of space devoted to the movie. He now has posted some screen shots from the deleted scenes that are on the DVD. I was recently looking through them and it is my opinion that all of these scenes would have added quite a bit to the movie... and would have explained a few things, as well. Too bad they were cut from the theater version. (I don't care... I still love this movie!)

The website is: www.patriotresource.com

He also has space devoted to a number of other things, including 9/11/01 and The Lord of the Rings. Go and enjoy!

Wow, thanks Wilderness Woman. I had no idea that Benjamin Martin was based on our beloved "Swamp Fox", Francis Marion. Now I REALLY want to get my hands on the Disney series. Thanks again for the link!

You are quite welcome, Susquesus. He's got quite a nice website there, hasn't he? And I haven't even really explored the pages for the other movies. He's doing very well with his History pages, as well. Hmmmmm... sort of reminds me of another very informative and popular website...

Yes, the similarity to the Swamp Fox is one of the things that has drawn me into the movie so strongly. 'Course lookin' at ol' Mel is a draw too! He does look good in long, tied-back hair! Hubba Hubba!

Oooops! I had better mind my manners or Kurt will be including me in the Wild Women of Bumppo's group. Don't want to become known as the Wild and Wicked Wilderness Woman!

Or... do I?

Aye... I saw ye there, Fitz! I've been on there a few times in the past, too. (Posting under a different handle.)

Conversation hasn't been very interesting lately on The Patriot board, but if you go to the 9/11 board and read in the archives after that horrible day... some v-e-e-e-r-r-r-y interesting discussions going on. Reminds me a bit of our own Lovely and Lively Lions Den.

Well Wilderness Woman, Lady Munro would agree with you on that. She is normally not attracted to men with long hair, but she says that there are two guys who can 'carry it off' and look hot. One is Mel Gibson, and the other is Seamus.

I haven't asked her, but she says that it is the 'swashbuckling-rogue look' and 'sparkling eyes' of both Mel and Seamus that makes them 'sweeties'. What she sees in me, I'll never know, I just hope she keeps seeing it.
