There is a great amount of truth in that display MG, since the Land Service Firelock (AKA- 'The Brown Bess') was the state-of-the-art military firearm of the period. Even today, it still can be quite a 'killing machine', and I own several variants of this fine weapon.

However, my 'go-to' gun for anti-tyranny / anti-leeches & looters use, is a little more modern...

Thanks MG; mine is a Springfield Armory M-1A (not the Norinco or Beretta import), and when I bought it in 1992, I paid just over $600 (including the optional walnut stock, since the standard beechwood variant was $570).

She is the the 'Issue-Grade' variant, but over the years I've upgraded the springs with David Tubb chrome-silicon variants, and R&R the op-rod spring guide and gas piston with 'National Match' spec variants from Sadlak. I've always kept the sights and exterior the same, so that I could still shoot in the Service Rifle 'As-Issued' class, during my DCM days (yeah, I know its been the CMP for almost 20 years, and I'm showing my age ).

Needless to say, I have a couple of handloads for shooting at various ranges (out to 600-800 yards, prone slow-fire stage), but for real world applications, my past training still causes me only to trust factory-loaded ammunition. During such times, as dealing with 'Leeches & Looters', my tactical ammunition supply consists of Federal Gold Medal 168gr. BTHP...

...Because like Hallmark, it's for when I only care enough to send the very best

My heaviest rifle for fire power, - is a custom Interarms 300 Winchester magnum - It's tad expensive to do much target shooting with, at over $2.00 a round. Kind of a pricey way to blow holes in paper, - but a great hunting gun. When it hits something, shows over.

Interarms 300 Win-Mag? Is that weapon based on the Mark X platform, which used to be sold/manufactured under the Weatherby label? Back when the Brits knew how to make a decent rifle If so, that's a nice piece of hardware you got. What kind of glass do you have on her?

Additionally, I can understand how $2/round can hurt. Have you ever considered 'rolling your own'? After the intial outlay for brass cases, the rest of the components should more than cut the price per shot in half.
