Reviewing my photos taken twenty years ago during filming, I took a closer look at these, thanks to the Modern Miracle of computer scanning and photo enlargement. I included them originally in the My Adventures in Mohicanland! feature here on the site, but realized they show a bit more than I thought. They were taken sometime in June at the Firefighters' Camp where we endured the notorious "boot camp". The production company used the property for a variety of purposes other than just US, including horseback exercises for Madeline and Johdi, and I just re-read Mark Baker's account of teaching DDL to load and shoot while running there.

This was a similar exercise in "hand-to-hand" combat for the principals conducted by the head of stunts, Mickey Gilbert, who had given us similar instruction so we wouldn't get hurt in the upcoming Ambush scene. At the time, the only other person I recognized was DDL, but I realize the others are present here, too!

In the first photo Daniel is at right, shirtless, tomahawk in hand, ready to react as Mickey ( in white shirt and shorts ) takes a swing at him, while Eric, with hands on hips, watches. Next a shirtless Russel seems to be talking to what I take to be one of Mickey's assistants, while another at far right holds Chingachgook's war club.

Here Eric blocks Mickey, almost unseen behind him, in a continuation of the previous shot; Daniel's tomahawk shows clearly here. THIS is the DDL I remember seeing jogging on the National Forest road on the way to the Ft. William Henry set, clad only in sweat pants and tennis shoes. These two shots plus another of our first look at our Huron opposite numbers I recently posted, and one showing the fibreglass English cannon were the only photos I bothered with during that entire month in Purgatory spent there!

You have me drooling at the prospect of viewing pictures of a "shirtless" DD-L...but no pictures are showing up in your post! Where the pictures SHOULD be, I only see little boxes with a red X in the middle of them!

Diane,

You are reminding me once again of why I HATE COMPUTERS! I have followed every "tip" of Rich's trying to make this work - sometimes it DOES, sometimes... You have two solutions: 1) Wait for Sachem to come and "fix" it; or 2) Go to My Adventures in Mohicanland and find the smaller enlargeable thumbnails. In either case, I'm afraid you may be disappointed by the poor quality of the origanals, taken as they were at a distance with my cheap Kodak Disc camera!
