Even though Jack was a relatively minor character and has been totally ignored in this poll to date, I am going to give him my vote. He was loyal (acknowledged King George as his sovereign at the Cameron farm), but displayed an immense sense of justice and leadership when he led the Colonial militia representatives to Albany to negotiate terms of service from Webb. Jack was also quick to nullify his agreement with the British authorities when he felt betrayed at Fort William Henry. Assuming that he survived the F&I War years, it is not hard to see Jack twenty years into the future as one of the leaders of the Revolution.

I had to choose the unknown body on the burial scaffold. Imagine living in America before the wilderness was spoiled, to live in the environment that could spawn wonderful characters like Chingachgook and even Magua. I'm sure the lack of science and knowledge probably made life much more painful and uncertain, but imagine the magic and mystery every day would hold. I wanted to say Chingachgook initially until I thought about the pain and suffering he must have experienced watching his culture and especially his own child die. Losing a child must be the most painful experience known to man, especially a child as strong and magnificent as Uncas.

A good line of reasoning for choosing the "unknown body".

Although I eventually chose to be Magua, I must admit that the "unknown body" was in the running for me.

i would have to be magua. He was crafty, sneaky, and he was respected by his warriors. i also felt he was brave, not backing of at a fight.

This is a difficult one.

I would vote for either Cora or Alice. Cora because she was an anomoly in her time and culture but in spite of that was able to find her match, through a rather miraculous set of circumstances. If it were not for her father's being stationed at Fort Billy Hank, she would have settling in London with someone her family picked for her and she would have been bored. Instead, she had the chance to reach her potential.

I would vote for Alice because she was able to overcome prejudices and an apparently close and youthful mind to find someone outside of her race (gasp) and considered a savage could be heroic and worthy of love and admiration. And, in a way, I think she found a sort of enlightenment about a way forward in her life (yes, I know many people condemn that way but I don't).

Both achieved something I'm still working at... a perfect match for a rather eccentric personality, and some sort of enlightenment about what I'm supposed to do with my life! :>))

YHOS,
English Trader

I would choose to be Alice.. or Uncas if I was a guy..(but I'm not!)
I think she had a very unusual experience compared to Cora.
Cora fell in love with Hawkeye..but well..that's almost expected...even though he was Indian-raised..he was still white.
For Alice..being so much younger and well..innocent..and inexperienced in matters of the heart...and Uncas could have been her 'first love'..it must have been a unique experience falling for Uncas..(Though who can blame her..the man is absolutely gorgeous..not to mention that stellar character!)..taking into account their differenr race..their vastly different background..and such..and in the wilderness!! For a gently bred girl like her...it must have been quite a experience.. I would love to know what she was thinking..especially at the burial ground..under the falls..and just before she jumped... was she scared?...heartbroken?...whatever she felt for Uncas is still pretty much a mystery though I did think she loved him...
and of course..i wouldn't mind being the other end of Uncas soulful looks.

Aaahhh yes! What an inviting thought!
I can't say that I admired Alice in the movie, she really did not do much to grab me throughout. Her only action worth speaking of was her final moment when she chooses death having seen all lost before her very young eyes... this including the man who would give anything for her.

I would wish to be her only for her good fortune and beautiful experience of having Uncas in love with her.

I voted Alice, take a wild guess everyone.
I would have loved to have Uncas as my love and to die like that would be a romantic yet tragic way to die.And I don't know why, but I like that.
But in reality, I'm like Cora. Independant and ready to fight for survival and stand up for what is just.Though I love Uncas and Alice, Cora was beautiful in personality and looks.
So I guess if I lived back then I would have wanted to be Alice but really I would have been Cora.Cool, huh?

I would vote for Alice. I mean, my obvious reason for choosing her is because she is loved by Uncas. I would love to have him come and rescue me and give me those *LOOKS* that he gives her. ~*~*SIGH*~*~

I wanted to vote for Alice, just because I would have made more of my opportunity to be with Uncas. I liked the comment by LurkingHuron3087. Thats why I chose to be Uncas instead, perhaps I would have done more than just exchange soulful looks...hahaha

i would have to choose Alice. she is my favorite character because she is the most-like-me character i have ever seen in any movie. i would have to say that i would have acted excactlylike she did,if im honest with myself, through the whole movie. and, uncas is my favorite male character because he is an underdog in the movie, but he notices Alice, even though she is only a quiet schoolgirl, and falls in love with her. they are both portrayed as underdogs in the movie, until the very end, when they really show their true qualities. i know i would have jumped off that cliff if i was in Alice's situation, even if i knew i was about to be saved. Hence, i voted for Alice.

It has come to us at last.

I voted for Cora only because of her strength and willingness to participate and make her own path in the Americas. I would have voted for Alice but she dies in the end. I wouldn't want to die and Haweye isn't exactly unattractive. I could have looked past the big nose and maybe loved him!

I voted for Cora. Alice killed herself and did not really have any "dealings" with Uncas anyway. At least Cora was a strong, beautiful woman and she ended up with Hawkeye who is a big, strong, brave and handsome man. She would have had a good life with him. Maybe a tough life but a good one.

The closest I could come to on this poll was Cora.
Not the shy type of person Alice is but Cora doesn't exactly fit me either. Sure I wouldn't walk from an ambush without a pistol of some sort but I think I would've grabbed a couple rifles and some more ammo too (Never can have too much, especially in times of war). And much like Cora I wouldn't have hesitated to shoot someone in the face to save my sister from murder.
Unfortunately I'm not as composed as Cora, rather I'm more self-reliant, don't need a guy to protect me(See my muscles?). And on the flip side I'm a little carefree even when tragic events are unfolding all around me (AAHHH! Someone save me!)
But then again, this is present day, after women's lib talking.

I live in my own little world - but that's okay, they know me here!

Choices, choices...

OK, by process of elimination:

Not Cora or Alice -- I cannot imagine going through life as a woman (must be the testosterone level).

Not Duncan -- I'm allergic to BBQ, especially if I'm the guest of honor.

Not Webb or Munro -- I can't imagine going through life with only 3 working brain cells (that would leave out all Brit officers).

Not Jack or the body on the scaffold -- they're just ciphers, no way to imagine their lives.

Now for the finalists:

Montcalm -- handsome (he's French), intelligent (he's a French officer, after all), brave, died a hero. Waitaminit! Died??? Mortally wounded by a musket ball?! Oh forget him!!!

Uncas -- nice to be percieved as studly & have all the ladies jumping my bones...but wait, my bones have turned to jelly at the bottom of that cliff! Besides, my throat is allergic to steel. Never mind.

Hawkeye -- what red-blooded guy wouldn't want to romp through the woods with Madeline Stowe? But wait, there's more; it's easy to see that in a few short years, good old Cora will be a real nag. Sorry, bud, you're stuck with her.

Magua -- one of the 2 great heroes of the story, but getting the crap beat out of me by a geezer isn't my idea of a real good time. Nope, sorry.

CHINGACHGOOK -- the other great hero of the story. I came so close to picking him (& you know I wanted to). But...no parent should have to bury his child; & to be the last of your people...that's more grief than I could handle.

And the winner is:

GREAT SACHEM -- live a long & fruitful life, respected & loved by your people, your word is law, all kinds of willing women to tend to your every need...what's not to like? And besides, Geezers Rawk!

LOL Just too funny Obi. Have a question though. Why on earth does everyone say Montcalm is handsome. The Montcalm from the movie is not handsome, I don't think so. Maybe go have another looksee but from what I recollect he is not in my opinion handsome.

I chose Alice, under the stipulation that I get to live her life but live it differently. I think the girl could do with some livening up.

I mean, think of all the fun she could have had romping in the wilderness with Uncas & crew (hmmm...or maybe just Uncas) if she hadn't been an "invalid schoolgirl."
