While I am sure they did I think that your suggested change is in order!!!

Britain, yes, Scotland, no. Scotland always had a close association with France. Mary Queen of Scots was married to a French royal. The French sent troupes to help the Scots in the 45. The Pretenders all had aid from France. The Scots in the 16th century wars with England had French support and even military instructors. So it would have been much more likely for a well-born Scot to have spoken French than an Englishwomen. But did they (in the movie)? Apparently not.

And any time the subject of mistranslations comes up I am reminded of Fort Necessity.

Oh, duh! Of course! I stand corrected. Thanks for so... er.... kindly.... pointing out my error to me, Miss-yer Lay-fran-say. I momentarily forgot about the fact that Scotland and England were at odds with each other, and that France supported Scotland. Sorry about that!

As to your final statement.... I am just ignoring that one.

Wouldn't want you to give the folks the impression that everyone disliked the French. I was just the British. And the occasional German state. And maybe the Low Countries. Sometimes Spain. Maybe Austria once in a while. And one or two Italian states. But, hey, you can't please everybody!
