Though I'm not a reenactor myself, I've visited Colonial Williamsburg twice with family and loved every inch of it.

Not to mention that my little sister and I dressed up in costumes purchased from the market and pretended to work there...

"Hello there, little girl. Where could I find the main office?"

"Uh...second building to left?"

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was illegal.

Anyone else visited, or better yet, participated in one of their reenactments?

I was there Summer of 2006 I believe. Hubby was home on leave and we went out East. I enjoyed my day there. I always enjoy places like that where they have folks dressed up in costume and interacting with the visitors. It was very hot, I recall that much and my four kids were cranky. Eldest found $10 on the ground so that made her day.

We were just looking into what house we want to rent for our next stay. We love it there and we always dress up for the trip.

Irish: Our last visit was late autumn of 2006. (Hence my utter paleness in the picture. I'm typically as brown as a berry!)
Hawk: Fantastic costumes! I'm already coercing my parents into taking us again this year.

Needless to say, I enjoyed myself.

Williamsburg is a delightful city, but sometimes one still encounters
those with interest in the western frontier known as Kante-Kee.

I hope Ye do M'Lady. When John Filson 1st told my friend Boone 'bout the land called Kante-Kee, or Kentucke as we later got to callin' it, he said it was a land of cane an clover, an that a man could lay claim to enough land for his sons an his grandsons, and enough left over for a great speck besides. An there was more game than a man could ever imagine. He called it the land of promise, flowin’ with milk an honey, an where Ye could eat bread without scarceness an not lack of anything. Yes I do hope Ye can visit this land of promise one day, an Ye will never want to leave it.

nativedoll, I sure do wish my kids had such an interest in History as you do. Kudos to you for that. Well my 9 year old is a Civil War "freak" as I like to call him. Does get it from his dad who loves wars and history but my eldest two, well they are another matter.

I was fortunate to be able to make my first trip there a year ago in December. As you can see, a large group of us from the Regiment all went down for the Grand Illumination. This photo was taken on the front steps of Christiana Campbell's Tavern, where we ate dinner that night, 18th century style.

I am the lady in the yellow gown, with the straw hat. Our Captain, who is Seamus on these boards, is the gentleman in front with all the flashy gold braid.

We dressed out every moment we were there, except when sleeping. I can't tell you how many times we were stopped by other visitors, to be asked questions or directions. People just assumed we worked there and always expressed great surprise when we said we did not. On that Sunday evening, when we were standing in the Duke of Gloucester Street, waiting for the Grand Illumination fireworks show to begin, the guys began singing. Within minutes, a large crowd of people had gathered around to watch and enjoy the "show." Again, they assumed we were employees who had been assigned there to entertain.

I was even the intended victim of that notorious Highwayman Severenus Baylor. He attempted to rob me of my pearl necklace at gunpoint. He pulled out his concealed pistol and jabbed it into my ribs, and told me if I cried out, he would shoot me! Fortunately, several soldiers in our Regiment quickly came to my aid, and my pearls, as well as my vanity, were saved. It put on another good show for the crowd and was great fun.

We had a wonderful time and all hated to have to leave to return to the 21st century.

WW, it looks as though your Dec. trip was warmer than our Jan. one. We were supposed to eat at the King's Arms but their kitchen went under so we all ate at Christiana Campbells.

We had to stand outside for over an hour in the cold to get a room to ourselves. There were a couple of fires going just off that porch you are standing on.

There's really no problem getting registered. When I last talked with Anne Marie she asked if any more from SC were interested in coming. You might just give her a call if you don't hear something.
