One of my favorite things to do when Autumn arrives, is track the progress of the changing fall foliage via the weather.com pages. According to what I read there today, the foliage in Mohicanland (western N.C.) is "near peak," meaning that 30% - 50% of the leaves have now changed color. The late-changing trees remain primarily green, but in the earlier changing trees, the colors are B R I G H T ! Sure wish I could make a trip out that way to see this for myself...<sigh!>

| I'm surprised that there is a lot of color in NC already. I live in PA, much further north, and we aren't having much color change, yet. It's just sort of starting. Maybe it was too dry this summer for lots of color. But, to me, most everything still looks pretty green here. |

Down here in South-eastern NC, the leaves in some parts look like they are starting to turn. But for the most part things still look greenish-brown. Due to the fact we haven't had much rain. Now in South-western PA where my folks live, their leaves are changing and laying on the ground already. Looks really pretty, my mom sent me a few pic the other day. I love fall!  |

Why we are almost neighbors Blackfootblood - I live a bit north of you in Pitt County. I was just in Kure Beach this past weekend - Are you near Wilmington?

Wow, i'll have to come see an NC Autumn one day. Most people i know that have been to NC around this time of year go on about beautiful it is.
Here in Engalnd the leaves are just changing but it rains too much to enjoy it haha |

Doesn't seem like it's quite there yet, D. I had to go to Asheville yesterday and though it was clear, it was still mostly green ... from Marion to Asheville.

That picture is really nice! I would print out something like that, frame it and hang it on the wall as an art photo.
We are still approaching peak here in Binghamton. Seems very slow this year, due to all the warm weather we have had. Things will move quickly now, however, with the drop in temps. |

We finally got out of the 90s here (HUZZAH!!!)
Today it looks like we're going to get a high in
the 50s. We can live with that. I'm seeing more
leaves dying here than changing color, probably due
to the extreme heat for so long.

It's the same story for KY too KFM. Stinks. I really like the fall colors but am enjoying the smell that comes with the temp. drop! |

I'm in Brown County in southern Indiana, a spot known for the changing fall colors. Like Ohio and Kentucky, this year things are pretty brown due to a very dry and hot summer. Sure am glad to see some cooler temps though!

| Well, I had an absolutely beautiful drive through Pennsylvania to Ligonier on Friday afternoon. Once I got out of the drizzle (there seems to be a weather line right at Scranton!), it was glorious! The colors are not quite at peak yet, but will be very soon. |

| OMG! I saw the first tree that turned it's fall color on in Boone County! WOW! How late in the month for it too! This drought is really doing a number here. But that tree was one of my mother's favorites. A big golden one. It was pretty and nice to finally see one turn from the season instead of the lack of water. |

In Texas it's brown. Green one day, brown the next, in the blink of an eye. I don't think I'd ever seen leaves change color till I moved to Carolina! |

Wing, I hate to burst your bubble, but earthquakes can happen anywhere! Fortunately, in my section of the Golden State, they are very rare...I haven't felt one under my feet in over 20 years.
That green remark wasn't meant to twist the knife, but more of a disgusted comment on our Mediterranean/desert climate. Most leaves come in only 2 colors: green or brown.  |

| Here in northern PA(Potter Co.) the leaves have peaked the first week-end in October.Still plenty of leaves on the trees...unusual for this late in the year. |

I was at Occoneechee State Park in VA this past weekend for some (much-needed!) R&R, and was very happy to see that the trees there are just starting to change color. The weather was beautiful too. It was cold enough to see my breath in the air Sunday morning when I took my dog for a walk and it actually felt like fall . . . until I returned to NC and the temps in the mid-80's. Ah well! Here's a little bit of fall color from VA:

We are right at peak now, and they are gorgeous this year!
I also am having a bumper crop of black walnuts. I have one tree next to my driveway (unfortunately!) that has outdone itself this year. It's not a very big tree, but it has produced a ton of nuts. I say unfortunately, because they are big and heavy and I fear for my van windshield. I probably should park out on the street until they are all off the tree. |

Beautiful picture, Red!! Virginia certainly does have some pretty scenery. 
Oh, and WW, an over abundance of nuts on trees means winter is going to be a rough one. Something my grandma always told me and have know to be the truth. I bet if you have squirrels, their in hog heaven!! |
