Rich!!!!!
Can't say that I blame ya'. If I were single my home would be PLASTERED with gorgeous NA men in loincloths. And I would probably be hitting casting calls for romance novel modeling! Especially for those ignorant white women/red man romances. Who cares about the stupid book! I'd just want to be all up on them like that!!!!!
BTW - what does #1174, nathan lee chasing his horses, have to do with LOTM? Oh well. Give me a saddle and call me Nelly!

Rich, You just have to get out of that tiny apartment more often buddy. I wasn't able to read the entire list, but I sure don't want to meet some of these people, especially the ones that want to know about scalping.

Oh...don't be afraid, Kaylynn. It only hurts for a split-second! Besides, you won't even know it's gone once you keel-over! You won't need it...won't even use it! |

Light, you may be interested to know that people didn't generally die from being scalped. It was usually from the other wounds that preceded the scalping.
In my Mohawk Valley (New York) family, a woman was scalped during a raid by the Mohawk in the Revolutionary War. She was wounded in other ways, as well, but played dead and survived to live a long life. It was noted that she always wore her cap, which covered the missing part of her hair and scalp. (Btw, before she was wounded and scalped, she was forced to watch the very brutal killings of her children.)
So, it could actually hurt for a lot longer than you think! |

My 5-g grandfather and a young boy who worked for him were both scalped toward the end of the Rev War by a band of Tories bent on revenge. He was 77 at the time and died, but the boy did not, and accounts say he lived "to a ripe old age". |

Really? You don't say... Geez-Louise! Have some fun and everyone wants a piece of ya'!
BTW we won't mention the injustices that rained down on BOTH SIDES of the fence. I'm sure the NA saw their fare share of brutal assaults and murders. Massacre sound familiar? Exile? Wounded Knee? Trail of Tears? Being lied to re: terms of a treaty because they couldn't read? Do you think that white men spared any women or children during their raids? Bashing in the heads of children with boot heels to save ammo...imagine watching your child die like that. Doesn't justify revenge on innocent victims but this sort of thing went two ways...not one.
Sorry if my fun struck a nerve. Didn't mean for it to do so.

Whoa, Nellie! Take it easy there! My comments were not said in any sort of anger or irritation. No nerves were struck. I was simply joining in the conversation, and thought you might appreciate the information. It was not meant to be any sort of attack on anyone.
Believe me, I am very well aware of the atrocities that were perpetuated on both sides throughout our history. I don't like it, either. But that was not the point here.
And I apologize, Rich, for taking this thread off in another direction. Didn't think that would happen. So, let's drop this now and let it get back on track. |

I am sorry too, WW. And do owe you an open apology. I shouldn't have taken the following posts so seriously. Also, I'm sorry to anyone else who may have posted regarding a surviving "scalpee". Please pay no attention to my moment of insanity! (I seem to have them often.) |

I realize this dead horse has alreay been flogged, but here goes anyway! A very common form of scalping was for the scalper to slice all the way along the front hairline, then rip the scalp back from there! I bet that smarts more than just a little as well as being really really loud to the scalpee! Also, think on this, if you have no scalp, you have nothing to hold your face up! |

Try getting scalped with the blunt end of the knife. That was Del's technique in scalping my son. I know that I posted this pic in another thread, but just had to do it again.
